need more advice

I just removed a stereo and fuse strip from behind the driver seat. I want to mount the battery box here and vent it through the sliding window, or a hole in the side of the van. Right now I'm left with all these wires I don't need and I'm afraid there my be power running to them which could cause a problem if the batteries are in this area. My first thought is to wrap up each connector with electrical tape and tie them&nbsp;up as neatly as possible. Other option is put batteries somewhere else. If there is no real risk here I can just shove them back in the hole&nbsp;and mount the box. I have the same thing going on above the front seats where I removed the tv and vcr, not as many wires though. Sorry I couldn't make the picture bigger.

No much of a problem. Get some liquid electrical tape. Put on heavy. After dry, wrap with electrical tape. Tie all together out of the way and wrap with electrical tape, add additional protection agains anything metal.<br><br>Most of the air from a battery is heavier than air, a hole in the floor will do.<br><br>Support the battery well, VERY well!!.<br><br>The same for the other wires. You may want to put the electrical tape on first so you can use the wires latter much easier.<br><br>The more you learn the easier it will be (and cheaper).<br><br>James AKA Lynx

why not remove the unused wire.&nbsp; I do this all the time and save all the useable wire for other projects.&nbsp; also it looks like there is more than a few bucks in scrap there if you don't want to save it.&nbsp; highdesertranger

The dangerous gas produced while charging a lead-acid battery is hydrogen, much lighter than air.&nbsp; The battery vent must be above the battery, not below.
