I'm in this situation by choice right now. In 3 weeks I will begin living out of my car. I've been awarded disability, and I could get me a little apt. and re-stabilize myself, or I could set off and check out some of these places I always had to keep going by when I was in my truck. This is a beautiful country, I love it here, and am still proud to be American.
I began truck driving in 1986, in 2001 I had my first of three heart attacks, I've had quadruple bypass, and have 4 stents in me. All since 2001. I'm still alive, and still able to do everything, I'm just slower now, more laid back, easy going, and open minded. If I can get up, put both feet on the ground, and pet my dog, then by God it's gonna be a good day.
In Sept. of 2013, I became unable to keep working, and applied for disability. My lovely wife of 25 years told me not to just get out, but to get the F*** out. I moved to my sisters, three months later I was awarded full disability and medicaid. " See honey I told you I was sick".
I have chosen to go this route because I can, it's a free country, and I'm gonna enjoy the freedom of whats left of my life. I'm staring with nothing, so it should be an interesting adventure. Tomorrow I start looking for camping gear. I've got 22 days and a wake up.

Welcome! Sounds like you have a plan. :) Just remember to take care of yourself. There's a lot to see and do out here even if you have to take it slower than you did before.

a45cap,

Wow, I give you credit for not letting serious medical (and financial and other) issues defeat your ambition to live a life of travel.

There are some other individuals on this forum who, like you, are courageously living on wheels despite all kinds of physical challenges.

Good luck to you. May your travels turn out to be all you ever hoped they could be--and more.

T.

Oh yes. There is nothing that refocuses your mind and spirit like the prospect of death.

The prospect is there for us all. But, being the only living creatures that know it is inevitable, then we can only speculate the time and place. So why worry about it, enjoy it now.
