This is the first video in my youtube series. I wish I had found this site before I started my build.
There is a wealth of information of here.

Welcome to the forum jydog...better late than never!

I've watched your vids from the start and they were really helpful for me to understand how a box van is actually put together and how it can be modified.

And you are a true junkyard dog...your total expenses on this build are amazing. The video of you buying a "box" and getting it mounted on the chassis by yourself is such a Redneck Git'R'Done classic I've watched it more than once ;)

Welcome to the CRVL forums jydog! Thanks for posting the YouTube link to your videos. If possible, could you also post some pics for those of us with limited data and bandwidth?

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Wow. Watched your first video - it was great. Gonna be watching the rest! I'm jealous of your shop, and overall know how. It's a beautiful thing to take a bunch of parts, and make something useful. I've also been considering a 10' box van. I like the stand up height, overall size, and ease of applying interior finishes to a square box rather than a curved van.

How much do them 10ft boxes weigh?
I use to shoot spray foam in a factory and I always wanted to buy a chassis van like you have there and then make a huge foam box to mount on it , the stuff is super light weight and very strong and rigid and would already have the insultlating properties.
Never did think of a way to skin the foam.
Its pretty interesting what there doing with foam these days for example how there starting to build houses out of panels called Sip panels ( structual insulated panels).
Bunch of videos on YouTube showing houses being built with sip panels , it would be interesting to see a type of Sip panel designed for building a Rv body.
Each Sip panel looks like a giant ice cream sandwich , think of the ice cream as the Foam ,
Then think about sticking one ice cream sandwich to the next forming a wall , kinda like building with giant Legos.
Just throwing a idea at ya

BradKW, Well, the cost was low until I started outfitting the back. It is starting to add up now.

VanDwellerModerator  , I followed your directions Thanks.

lost sailor, That's exactly why I chose the 10ft box, plus it makes the smallest Class B (for box) coming in at about 17ft.

Mobilesport, I like your Idea, I wish I had those building materials ( spray foam and sip panels ) have you ever seen this camper?

also my comments shouldn't be turned off on youtube. Would you mind checking again? Thanks

Here is how they constructed it.

I followed the Super Camper build, and also the Wescott's Turtle V which is built using Nida core. Basically if you can learn to work fiberglass you can build with it. It's amazing stuff. I don't know much beyond what's posted about the Super Camper, but I know the Wescotts and I can tell you the Turtle V has held up well. It's got around 200,000 miles on it now, including a trip circumnavigating the world, and it is still the most capable and comfortable camper I know of. I would love to build something similar someday, on top of a service body so I could haul my tools still.

Sorry for the highjack, after I wrote all that I realized this thread is actually about a box truck.

JYD - that rig is lookin' SWEET! Man, thinking back to where you started - HUGE result. New cam seems about the same to me, sound is little louder.
Great deal on the refer, not sure where I'd put it in your layout. I've seen 'em set into a countertop so they are level with the top of the counter, you get the
flat surface when they are closed, and the contents is right there when it's open. That won't help you of course, sorry.

Welcome JYD,
I watched some of your videos awhile back and now here you are, glad you found us. Always nice putting a face to a name. Your project came out fantastic, and the deal you got on that fridge is a huge bonus. I was looking into doing a 10' box conversion at one point and that's when I found your videos. Your build is giving me strong 2nd thoughts about going that way again.

My brother built a house that looks very similar to yours........landscape and trees in the background, size, brick color, etc. looks like you might be in the same area. He's in S. Carolina.

I found it on ebay for $99. Shipping was almost as much as the door though.

I think i've found a solution with the bed. I'll post it in my next video.

10 ft is perfect for boondocking a few nights. I think the sweet spot would be 12ft with 8ft wide if you can find one of those.  I'm in Georgia so not too far from your brother.

I have a 12' box, 8' wide, for me the sweet spot would be a 14' box same width.
Currently using a real big shoe horn to cram everything in!

So I think we can all agree the "sweet spot" is two feet bigger than whatever rig you have?  Such is life!
