<FONT size=3>I've really weeded out my music collection. Got rid of all the vinyl (boo hoo) and am down to about 300 cd's, that I just can't live without.&nbsp; </FONT><br><FONT size=3></FONT>&nbsp;<br><FONT size=3>I'm copying them to flash drives. A different flashdrive for different types of music.&nbsp; Is this necessary? I don't like to miss my music.&nbsp; If I'm in the mood for one type of music, I don't all of a sudden want something else thrown in.</FONT><br><FONT size=3></FONT>&nbsp;<br><FONT size=3>What should I get for a listening device.&nbsp; Keeping in mind that&nbsp;power consumption&nbsp;is a concern. </FONT><br><FONT size=3></FONT>&nbsp;<br><FONT size=3>Please discuss</FONT><br>

I would suggest getting some sort of iPod.&nbsp; Not the big bulky ones with the touch screens and whatnot.&nbsp; There are small ones that just play music and don't use much power at all.&nbsp; Something like this:http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/.&nbsp; Assuming you have a computer, you can transfer the music you want from the flash drive onto the iPod, and the iPod will charge from being plugged into the computer while the music is transferring.<br><br><br>

300 CD's stored on Flash Drives? Sooo expensive! Thumb/Flash drives are typically very expensive and not terribly durable. I lose them a lot because of their size.<br>Maybe consider an external/portable Hard Drive? My favorite (years without a problem and mine get dropped, beat up and exposed to very high &amp; very low temperatures) is the <b style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Seagate FreeAgentGO 320 GBs.</b><br>Small, cool lookin' and very very tough. One 320 GB will store over 200 full length movies. (Because 1,000 DVDs is a lot of weight to be hauling around)<br>You can get them New, on Ebay for $45- 55, free shipping. OR thru <a target="_blank" href="http://shop.seagate.com/store/sgateus/Content/pbPage.OnSalePage">Seagate's Outlet site.</a><br>Recommend a cheap extended warranty thru <a target="_blank" href="http://squaretrade.com">SquareTrade.com</a>&nbsp; if you're hard on equipment (I am).<br><br>Plenty of non-Apple music players and PVPs, but if you have to have an actual iPod, you can sync from windows to the iPod with a program called DOPISP <br><a target="_blank" href="http://www.mgtek.com/dopisp/">http://www.mgtek.com/dopisp/</a><br>without having to have iTunes taking up so much of your hard drive and memory (because it runs ALL the time) or worrying about iTunes downloading music-wiping viruses to your computer thru it's automatic updates.<br><br><br><br>

You can get MP3 players from about $5 up.&nbsp; As with most things, you don't get more than you pay for but may get much less.&nbsp; I wouldn't pay for or want the apple name myself.&nbsp; Walmart has some, but for&nbsp; chineese junk you can order direct from dealextreme.<br>

<div><br></div><div><span style="font-family: Arial; ">Cyndi, I know this is late but I was wondering what you were going to plug those flash drives into to play your music.&nbsp; If it is a laptop why not just save you music on it?&nbsp; If you have Windows Media Player, you can make up play list for whatever mood you’re in. The last time I checked I had 5,606 songs on my computer and they took up just under 13 gigabit.&nbsp; &nbsp;</span></div>

Having the laptop on to play music is less power efficient. Better to have an iPod.<div><br></div><div>Windows Media format is good on disk space. Some formats take way more space.</div>
