Of course when I was growing up if you wanted to listen to music you had the new FM band in stereo and high-fidelity, records or some people had reel to reel tape decks. A 45 record was 49 cents at the local record store, LPs where around $10 unless it was a double release or picture disc.

So now that they don't have to make, press out a 45 and ship it to the store and pay all those middle people,,, why is a download 99 cents?

Even though I'm older, I think the Internet is great. But there are some things I don't want to stream, have on the cloud or use data. One are maps and the other is my music collection.

So if you could buy a single download MP3 for 15 cents, is that to good to be true? Well maybe, but so far I haven't had any problems.

So here's the good news; http://www.mp3va.com will let you download a single MP3 for 15 cents. I kept an eye on this website for more then a year because I thought it has to be some kind of scam, but it's been all good. Also, more then a year ago I googled reviews and checked Facebook to see if I could find anything shady, again all good. I also wondered if they're paying the artist and they claim they do, but because they're not base in the U.S it's at a lower rate.

So here's the bad, if you want to call it that. After doing a lot (and lots) of digging I found the website is base in Ukraine, yup, the same one that's in the news everyday. So it makes you wonder how stable the website / company would be... and how secure your information is.

I've been using the website for more then six months now to download music and it has been flawless, before the internal war started. As the website still states, I got my first two songs for free just by registering with them. After that you have to fund your account. I did this at the bare minimum of $10 with a credit card. Over the last six months I've almost used up my $10 at 15 cents a song, accept for The Beatles White album I downloaded which was a few bucks.

So if you'd like to download MP3s for 15 cents and you're willing to share your credit card with an Ukrainian website you can have music for much less then Amazon or Apple.

http://www.mp3va.com MP3 for 15 cents. You'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth it.

Thanks for that info! I'm going to rant and rave, but I don't mean at as an attack on you. You paid what the site asked for and I have no problems with that!! I suspect the site is stealing, but that's on them, not you.

I am only speaking for myself--no one else. This just my opinion.

Let me try to answer the question why it costs 99 cents.

1) Artists should own and be paid for their work and they can charge whatever they want. They created it, they own it. When you steal a song, movie or a book and the artists and creators get nothing. You are as much a thief aa any other thief. You might as well start stealing cars and robbing convenience stores. Except I think you are worse. Stealing cars only hurts one other person. Stealing art destroys an entire industry and is devastating to society as a whole
2) If the artist or business can't make money on their art, they will stop creating art!! We all lose if that happens!! If they have the hope to get rich on it, they (and all the other artists who never get rich) will create more and it will get better and we all win!!
3) Music is a business, and all businesses have expenses. If they can't cover those expenses and make a profit, they'll stop. They are not charities. They are not slaves we can order to dance and sing for our entertainment and never reward them in any way.

When I was in Alaska I wanted to buy some carvings as a momento. I found one I loved! I could have slipped it in my pocket and walked out while the carver wasn't watching. That would have made me a rotten a human being. Instead, I paid for it, profusely thanked and praised the sculptor, and took it home with joy in my heart. I will treasure it for the rest of my life.

I see no difference from stealing digital art than stealing that sculpture. Except the digital art cost a LOT more money and time to create so I would be even a bigger and worse thief.

No, I don't own a movie, a song, a TV show, or a book I didn't pay what the artist asked for it.

I've used a similar site in the past paying only several cents per song, and I seem to recall that worked well. But nowadays with so many different "Napster-like" apps in the Google Playstore, I'm able to download a bunch of songs for free. The problem I've noticed is a particular app might work for awhile, and then later not work at all. Or other times if I need to download the same app again from the Google Playstore, it will disappear. I simply do trial and error and find apps that will work in downloading free MP3 songs. I must have downloaded hundreds of songs by now over the past few years. I used to pay .99 cents to Amazon for each MP3 song, but I stopped doing that long ago.

Bob, I appreciate your thoughts, more then you may know. So let me explain.

After a driving career I was an artist. I had a photography career that spanned three decades. I was very good at what I did and along with freelance gigs I work for, and contributed to some major names, including Parade Magazine, ABC News, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Science Christian Monitor and even included a record album cover. My assignments included the Vice President, the Dallas Cowboys and people such as Chuck Norris and Don Henley of the Eagles. Before anyone says anything, I never, never did paparazzi, never followed or pursued anyone. I don't believe in that.

And yes, I've had work stolen. Including a record producing company, a major magazine and one that was made into a post card, all which will remain nameless.

So I submit if this website isn't on the up and up with paying artists, one would think there would be at least a news story about it when you google it, if not outright complaints by artists. I haven't googled it since I started downloading, but I did my do-diligence, more then I've ever done on Amazon or Apple. Then waited six months and searched everything again. I couldn't find anything, even unsubstantiated.

Running the Ubuntu operating system, it's actually easier for me to steal music then pay for it. There are less steps involved, but I choose to buy music for the very reasons you state. And, as an artist, I know first hand what it's like to have your work stolen. Having said that, if I or anyone else finds that this website is ripping off artist, I'll walk away from it and leave the balance of my money behind.

$1 is too much? to be honest?
many artists have music available as free downloads. But, like bob said about the cost of making the music available. someone pays for it. I hope your card isn't compromised on some future date.

Zil, I hope everyday my credit card isn't compromised, both on and off the Internet. I was buying in Target when customers data was being stolen, and that was in the U.S.

The credit card company is responsible for unauthorized use. And what I do, and recommend for others, is to have text alerts sent to you anytime your card is used. It worked when we went back to Target.

lol it would be good in the 90s. I prefer the 0 cents deal xD flac included
