So, after sinking 6000 in materials, and 300+ hours work, COMPLETELY renovating that pace arrow, we hit the road last month.......well we made it 6 miles, yes SIX, before we had catastrophic engine failure, (a fire and blown engine all at once!). Cost to repair was over 3000, so we walked away. Happy note......we decided to say eff it, rent a moving can, and continue to san diego. When we got here, we found a late model 5th wheel we are happily living in in san ysidro. The wife got a job at the park we live in, so no rent! So, happy happy happy!

Sorry to hear but I will take this example from you and quit being so whiney about my problems.

WOW a big sinker feelin bad for you. Lick your wounds. YOU MOVED ON MANY WOULD HAVE JUST GIVEN UP.. Stay strong and good luck, I love the coast

All used vehicles are the same. ALL ARE MONEY PITS

if you have no reciepts for.

BRAKES
MUFFLER
SHOCKS-STRUTS
TIRES
SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES

ENGINE TESTS a compression test, and an oil chemical analysis

Its just a money-time bomb ready to go off.

*** sorry to see this happen to you. most have no means to check all of these hidden vehicle costs.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune! Glad things worked out in the end.

I'm sitting in the waiting room of a repair shop as I type this and I've got my fingers crossed that I won't have to replace the fuel pump.

@offroad: Let me correct you...I perhaps you meant to say that ALL VEHICLES are money pits, not just used ones!

I remember, years ago when camping at Dome Rock in Quartzite, this older couple from Winterpeg had the diesel engine in their truck bite the biscuit.. EXPENSIVE!! ..Willy.

woody---so very sorry about the P.A. I have a 84 34 ft---did the same thing,it still sits in my yard,(storage)for my junk-.
take care.

AimlessWander - you know it.

TxGypsy - hope you have the cheap pump, not the expensive embedded pump that some car companies like to GOT YA with.

Wow... So sorry to hear y'all had to experience that, but so glad you were able to move on.

I hope everything works out for the best.

That's terrible, sorry to hear! Is your RV totally a waste now? Can't use at all? Or just not worth it any longer?

What a terrible experience. But what's more amazing to me is your positive attitude and persistence. Where there's a will, there's a way --you prove that! Take care!

Thoughts about having an experience like yours have been troubling me and I think just saving cash and buying something in-place like you did is a good option. I will waait till my wife passes and then do whatever comes easiest. I may not be able to get much out of this place when the time comes and taking a motorhome as trade-in may be the only chance to get a decent offer. I would rather sell for cash and find something when I get out west but I'll have to go with whatever works when the time comes. This is a sure fired plan for disaster I think.

It is what it is.......THE PAST! we've moved on, and are much happier with what we have.

Good for you Woody. I had a Super Duty Ford 4X4 with 12?,000 miles on a power stroke diesel stolen without insurance and it like to have knocked me to my knees when I saw it gone and realized it was GONE. Took me a long time to get over the emotional impact and still subdued financially from that. Probably not really over the emotional part since I look at everything I have as vulnerable now.

Wow! So sorry for you guys. I hope the blessings will end up out weighing the losses in all cases of such financial misfortune. I have to say this forum is a pearl for learning the "what not tos", thanks to the seasoned posters here. You guys ROCK! When you speak, I will listen. Since this is a first time venture for this gal and I need all the advice I can get.

Happy Trails,

Scarlett

hey now woody, wow sorry for your lost!!. and after you spent $6,000 dollars and "300" hundred man hours on it, (completely renovating)that pace arrow. well don't feel to bad you got out cheap enough. my dumb ass would have spent another $3,000 and some more dollars, to have a completely restore class a or c with a new engine in it. fellow travler gary p.s. if you like san ysidro weather, you can live next door in mexico for about 1/3 of the cost it is to live in the u.s.
