I've been enjoying this site for a few months. Like many of you I see major changes in my near future. The idea of stealth van living to maintain my current good paying job in this very expensive area if my situation comes to that has given me a lot of comfort in these dark days. You folks are an inspiration.

MattK, I couldn't agree more! Imagine putting every penny you are spending on rent and utilities in the bank and saving it?! That's got a nice ring to it! Then try to imagine that it is a better, happier life than you had in the apartment! That's what happened for me!

I was always good with money, before I got married I had 20k in the bank and a 2yo car that was paid for. Well I'm still driving that "new" car 17 years later and I'm never sure if I'm going to be able to swing the mortgage. I long for the simpler days when I lived below my means and never worried about money. I always tell the young folks I know that if they are serious about someone in their life they had better make sure they are responsible with money or no matter how good you are they will eventually drag you down with them.
