I made this to be Simple and Easy to make
so that a person with limited tools could
make Easily and Quickly -
a Drill and 2 bits and glue are needed -
and some wood -

Ive been using a Rear View camera / Screen for 2 months -
Rear Cam can be mounted Anywhere on rear of van-
I can see Everything now --> its Wow <--
this system is Great - $100 ish
( will write another thread on cam use  )

Screen is usually mounted onto the stock rear view mirror-

Since the Viewing screen can be put Anywhere
I decided to mount it on the Dash so I dont
have to take my eyes off the road  to look Up at
screen/mirror  --> just glance at it - Nice

Dash in my van is 100% curves - Not a flat spot Anywhere -
curves make attaching things Harder to do -
dash is thin plastic and flimsy also -

tried several different designs and they Rattled and moved
I dont want any noise -

after several tries this is what I cam up with
will take about 1 ish hours to make - + glue dry

I built this to have a Lot of Adjustability to fit the
many dashboards - mount is Bigger /Taller/ Longer
than needed - Resize to fit UR needs -

5 wood parts are made -

the 2 Arm pieces are the only parts that need to
be made carefully -
Holes need to be drilled to MATCH each others location
on the 2 arms so that 2 screws can go thew holes -

The part that the mirror attaches to was made in
DogBone shape so that air vents on back screen are not covered -

Install 2 screws into holes to align and hold straight -
Put Square Pin between arms for proper spacing of arms -

2 arms are glued to DogBone looking piece -
wood/epoxy/superglue will work -
(wood screws could be used to join parts/arms also )

once parts are in place and Aligned
Clamp and - Let Dry Completely -

My dash has a Very Curved shelf on top center of dash
so I decided to make mount sit on this shelf -

tried several Bases and a wood rectangle that Touched
sides of shelf and Not the Bottom of the shelf at all
did not move/rattle around - worked best

I uses thick wood for the base to get some weight
to help hold in place -
(Screen also has a Built in Dash camera so dont want vibrations )

I drilled a 5/8 inch hole into base and carved
the end of Square Peg to fit into
End of Peg is rounded to fit fairly tight into hole -
I used a knife to carve Round

Also I drilled 6 - 1/2 holes into wood to hold small solar
lights for charging -

Paint now if wanted -
Do Not paint parts that Touch -
paint is glue -

I put screen so its Low and just slightly
above dash so front Camera can See Forward Clearly -

moving around a little  for best view -

Tighten 2 screws to hold in place -
Wing Nuts on screws R best for easy adjustment

wood Parts size -

2 arms 5"long x 1"wide x1/2" thick -
Holes drilled every 1/2" threw both arms -
hole size to match screws U have -
screws are 2 inches Long -

DogBone 8" long x 2"wide trimmed to 1" wide in middle area
and 1/2" thick -

Square peg is 3/4" thick x 4" long
and end carved to 5/8" Round to fit hole

Base has 5/8" hole drilled into hold Peg -
hold is drilled in base for Best Location
(mine was in front corner of base)

there is MANY ways to make a mount -
I made this one Easy and Simple -

Painted mine to match my van interior -

A lot of work and I am glad it works for you. I just used the stock mount on the windshield. Barely have to move my eyes to take a glance. I am lazy.

Groovy, thanks for this post! I have the same backup/dash cam (got it because of your recommendation) but I haven't installed it yet. I really LIKE that it's made to go over the rearview mirror because my van doesn't have a rearview mirror (no windows in back) and I want to be able to look in the mirror and see what's behind me like I would in any other vehicle. My problem is finding a mirror! There's a bracket on the glass but it's too big for a standard (supposedly "universal") rearview mirror from the auto parts store. So I'm going to find one from a Pull-A-Part... but I work 6-7 days a week so getting there is a problem. Hopefully I can do it soon.

Groovy, I like it. Functional, DIY and inexpensive. Appreciate photos and text. It's giving me ideas for my own rig.

You all are Welcome -

made this so people that dont have windshield rear view
mirror in van already can uses this cam/screen Easily -

Had not thought about it till Bandadequeen said
she did not have mirror mount on windshield already -

this Cam/screen makes it so much safer and better
that I want everyone that needs it can easily install
one in their van -

Before I got cam/ screen I was having to get out
and Look behind my van to make sure it was clear -

driving with a Big blind spot that side mirrors
did not cover was Really not safe -

having Cam /screens are so Much better than stock mirror -
I had been looking for 4 years for cam/screen they were $pendy -

Now for $100 ish someone can have a Great rearview
cam/screen with a Builtin Dash cam - Its Awesome -

One small finder bender will cost way more than
this cam so money well spent and its
cool having cool screen mounted on dash -

had to get this cable - 2.5mm plug - 4 conductor

stock rear cam cable was long enough when
cable was run on roof and thru headliner -
cable had 3 ft ish extra length

when rear cam  able is run on floor and up threw
dash it is too short by a few inches

so ordered this cable- 9ft long -
easily enough cable now

just plug together for longer

longer cable link

after using for a few days and adjusting location/angle
I have rear view screen just like I want -

cut off the extra wood and painted it -

now after several years of not having a rear view mirror
Im having to get use to it again -
find my self looking at old mirror even tho
have not used it in a long time -

This is the exact reason I used the old location for the monitor in a mirror option and is a cleaner install.  This is where it is in every vehicle.

took a few days now im used to screen placement
and I Really like it -
Easy to See
