I just want a phone that call, texts, and has a,memory card for music.

I absolutely do not want a camera or GPS

Finding one is much harder than it sounds. It's a long shot. But thought maybe this forum could help

Tracfone still has a lot of cheap older phones available. I have a flip-phone with no bells and whistles.

Here's a good deal I got today from slickdeals.com The phone or minutes are both worth more that $59.

Tracfone Samsung J7 Sky Pro 4G Phone + 1 Year of Service with 1200 Min/Text/Data $59.99
In the TracFone eBay store, they are offering the Samsung J7 Sky Pro w/ 1 year of service and 1200 Minutes/Text/Data Credits for just $59.99. I had been watching this listing and considering buying it at $79.99, then got an email from eBay noting that it had dropped $20! Shipping is free. That would be a bargain on just the phone, and with the year of service it really stands out.

Doubt there is one like that..just turn them off?

I have an LG 306G Tracfone that I bought a year ago or so for $10.  It's a dumb phone and doesn't have GPS,etc. It does have a camera/video but I rarely use them. It uses Verizon's towers and I've had good reception in 'most' places and have been very happy with it.

Both of my credit unions have telephone tellers that I can call and make payments, move cash from one account to another (including Visas),etc.  I feel this is more secure than doing same online.

Drawbacks are that I can't use the Uber or Lyft apps.  I have used a Kindle Fire with Lyft but it's not so great, freezing up at bad times. So anyway, I will get a smart phone sometime in the future.

Keep looking...basic phones are out there. I also have an old Nokia bar phone that I've had for 14 years with T-Mobile and it is very cheap. But it only works in larger urban areas. It woudn't work at all in Juneau or Fairbanks. Or Kalispell,MT.

You can always put tape over the camera lens. Cameras have been a pretty standard feature for quite a few years. Most phones you can turn off location (GPS) in the settings.

Oh, I forgot. It also has a music player and bluetooth.  I sometimes use it with a small JL Crasher bluetooth speaker.

LG Rebel 4 at walmarts for $ 59.oo , A TracFone, 16 gig built in storage and can add a sd card up to 32 gigs for extra storage. It has a 5.5 in screen for good viewing. I don't use it like other folks, just for call and a couple texts.

On mine I've accumulated, because I don't use it much, 6.3 gigs Data, 5100 minutes, 10108 texts. Can't give them away and they keep rolling over. and that is in just 8 monthes since I bought it.

But check to see which is the better phone services ( carrier ) are in your area.

Your cell carrier knows where your phone is anytime it is on.  That information is needed to route a call to your phone.

And it can be triangulated (if there are other cell towers in range) to within an area but not near as close as GPS. The only true way to not be tracked is get a media player and ditch the phone all together.

Yeah, might stink, but if it's real important, maybe go with a separate mp3 player(or whatever they're called nowadays).

Yea. I'm thinking that's what I have to do. By the way the GPS records everything. Yes, they can still triangulate where you are without it but it's not on constant surveillance and also they have to work for it.

They have to access your phone to get the GPS stuff and all they have to do is access your phone for the triangulation stuff. You're phone is a receiver for GPS and the satellites are just transmitters. You're phone doesn't send anything to the satellites.

I would just get a good cheap phone and not use the camera if you don't want to. You can turn off location and not use GPS.

The best deal I have found is at Dollar General. You can buy a good quality phone for $39 and use prepaid unlimited services like Tracfone, Simple Mobile and Total Wireless. I like Simple Mobile the best.

Gr8ful how do you determine the network this is on? I looked and could not find or find a way to pick. I need Verizon for a friend who’s old 3G flipfone will die come December.

(The ebay/TracFone banner I saw with 1200 min, 1200 text and looks like 3GB of data for $49 also a great refill deal. On that you get to pick the network)

It can depend on the zip code you are buying from..75001 zip is a verizon phone.

almost all usa cell phones have gps chips in them these days. even if there is no way for the user to access it via an app or anything. the chip is there to send your location to dispatchers during a 911 call. of course, some have concerns for other nefarious uses. you might try finding an out of country phone. some other countries may not have as many "hidden" gps chip sets.

another "outside the box" approach you might check into is getting a mifi and then using google voice or some other web based phone number to call from. i know that with my google voice they explicitly say you cant make 911 calls. i wonder if that is that they dont transmit gps data? i dont know if all mifi units even have gps. some of the verison jet packs do but others, i dont know? but even if the mifi had a gps, going through a google voice number from a laptop or other wifi enabled device may provide you with what you are looking for. you could even use some smart fones with the sim card removed over wifi (not all, some lock up)

I'm currently deployed there are several CANDY BARS in high rotation here. They are all unlocked and come in lots of different variations. EG - I never thought I'd see a 4 sim phone with qwerty keyboard or a dual sim Nokia candy bar.

If you'd like me to hunt down a few specific models let me know via DM. The locals often will go on the economy and find exactly what you want... What results did you find on GSM ARENA?
