WOO HOOO! I landed a job with CLM, hosting at French Meadows Camp in Northern Cal. I guess it's finally beginning for real now. I'm going to be 6000 ft. up, so it should be really easy to get drunk. Naw, they don't have any good beers (I'm a Portlandian, and therefore a beer snob), but I will be out of the heat and camping next to a chilly mountain lake where I intend to coax many trout into my belly. I leave early Wednesday or Thursday. I'm so stoked!!

This will be my first substantial trek away from the comforts of civilization, family and friends, since I began this endeavor. My astro van is as ready as it's going to get at the moment and by the time this job is done, hopefully I'll know exactly what I'm missing and be fully prepared for winter.

There's no cell service where I'm going, so I'm going to be out of touch for the most part, but I'll come visit the forum whenever I can.

Blars turned me on to the idea of CLM, so thanks to him and all of you. I couldn't have done it without cheaprvliving.com and all you awesome people here at the forum.

Wish me prosperity! Or luck, if that's all you can muster.

Thanks!
Those are admirable beers, I must admit. I also love Lagunitas, but Mirror Pond Pale from Deschutes is slightly better than Sierra Nevada's, imho. Maybe I'll get lucky and find something good in Roseville, where I'll likely be getting my supplies.

Good for you ,Kevin, keep us posted how it's going!
WTG KEVIN! Happy for ya!
Wish I could say I'm right behind ya.

Congradulations. Akrvbob (owner of this site) is the one who helped me get a job with them. Perhaps we'll finish infiltrating and take over the company.

I think we just might take over. It turns out my new supervisor is one of us as well. Small world.
I'm having my first day off. The altitude did a number on me the last couple days, making me more tired than I'm used to, and despite my best efforts, I managed to get a sun burn on my neck, but overall, this is still the best job I've ever had and I'm sleeping better than I have in months.
Not much else to report. I must admit I had some butterflies developing while considering this trip, but they were quickly replaced by the non-metaphorical kind of butterflies soon after I got here. It's so pretty, it's hard to think about how far away home is and how long I'll be here. Everything is still a bit surreal, but I can already tell that this will be my new home soon.
All in all, work-vacationing rocks. I recommend it.

I've seen heavy thunder in Denver and in Florida, but NOTHING compares to last night's fiasco. It seemed like a solid hour of constant thunder and lightening, a quick break, then another hour, coupled with some really far out dreams when I caught sleep between the storm systems passing through the mountians. I don't even know how to put it all into words. It was just unreal. It made me wish I hadn't ever abused the word "awesome" because that word should be saved for something like this.
