now that i got your atention,i just bought  honda ruckus 50cc motor scooter, it gets 115 mpg.to get around while in camp or ride to the store,or just having fun with.my question is do they belong with fellow rubber tramps? or with rvers. some poeple don't think so, what do you think? if you do think that belong, then what are you riding, and why? thank you gary

Yes! They definitely belong! Part of the lifestyle, in my mind, is about conservation. Taking the bike out for getting around definitely conserves.<br><br>Congratulations, Gary!

I had a cheap Chinese scooter when I started, had a ton of fun!! but after a while, it became a bit of a hassle to haul so I went with an old Dahon folding bike after the scooter got stolen. I laughed when it happened because it was almost a relief that I didn't have to keep track of it anymore.<br><br>Still, the best way to explore a new place, IMO!

scooter is nice, but you really do need the exercise that a bicycle gives you. you should have the physical strength to handle 20 miles on a bike. most find they di not until they do some exercise. ypur body will thank you.&nbsp;

I think they belong.&nbsp; in fact I think you should be allowed to use them more, &nbsp;as far as off roaders go.&nbsp; in Arizona they let you street legalize off road quads and motorcycles this should be the norm not the exception.&nbsp; what makes more sense firing up the f250 to make a store run, &nbsp;or a quad/bike that gets 2 to 4 times better fuel economy.&nbsp; I myself have a 4wd quad, &nbsp;a buddy has a Honda trail 90 it's sweet even has the factory aux gas can.&nbsp; in your rural communities in az, ca, nv, or, wash, and Alaska it is defacto legal to ride them on the roads, &nbsp;this should be legal imo.&nbsp; I mean do we really want to cut down on the amount of fuel this country uses or do we just have an agenda.&nbsp; highdesertranger

I just bought an electric rear wheel kit for my 6spd mountain bike. I am hoping it will give me the confidence to ride a bit further with my pedals. Right now I get concerned that I will go to far and not be able to pedal back,<br>It will also be nice to get the assist from the electric wheel climbing hills. With the battery I bought it says I should get maybe 20 miles (no pedaling). Realistically I am shooting for 15 miles pedal assist. I will have a second set of batteries charging while I am out riding (hopefully via my solar panel.)

hey now,&nbsp;&nbsp; i see i got a few hits on this topic,first i like to say is i love my little scooter,now that i have had it for two month's, its great for getting around town doing stuff.really like it for boondocking, go exploring around instead of sitting&nbsp;around camp without burn up much gas.&nbsp;&nbsp; i.m.o.p. i think motorcycle or motorscooter or elc,gas power bikes,or just pedal bike.is an indivinual to&nbsp;choose what to ride. after all these bikes are dangerous. i got the one i wanted, because of my age, 60 years old,and price $3,200 out the door,CHEAP to insure $200.00 a&nbsp;year full coverage with aaa. and small enough to throw in the back of my pickup an take camping.thank you&nbsp;everone for your response.fellow traveler gary&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

o.t.r.a., i have a ramp that i run the bike up too and in back of my pickup truck. it weight is 195 pounds. i'm think i might get my self an older class c, now that i got the scooter.with the casita travel trailer an my truck i'm 33 long.make's it kind hard to find parking spots at the beach.i was down in san diego for two days druing the hot spell. and put about 100 miles on the scooter while there,went an got gas $5,00&nbsp;an got back $2,00!!god i love the look gas attendent give me!!! gary&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

<EM><SPAN style="COLOR: #888888">Yeh, I steered back towards the simplicity of bicycles so I could stay fit to do my work. Its funny cause the work keeps me fit to MTbike and the MTbiking keeps me fit for work but those little step through scooters are cool. I had one a few years ago, Honda called it a Nifty Fithy (50CC) &nbsp;when everywhere on the thing. yep&nbsp; I am a big fan of scooters and bicycles. I like the Ruckus, I especially like the Ruckus 250cc. I think that is a cool design, the hummer of scooters with the fold up&nbsp;back rest.&nbsp;<br>I&nbsp;have&nbsp;a folding bicycle&nbsp;that fits in a bag in my Kurbmaster in&nbsp;Canada and&nbsp;a Vespa 200cc which I use a lot when there. I rode it to Alaska&nbsp;once.&nbsp;I built a rack on the back to haul it around.&nbsp;<br>Here in NZ I have two scooters and a mountain bike,&nbsp;&nbsp;I have&nbsp;the same model 2005 Vespa 200cc different colour&nbsp; and a vintage 1967 Vespa that I restored. I am a bit of an&nbsp;enthusiast at one time I had&nbsp;10 of them in my shed but&nbsp;I am over that.&nbsp;&nbsp;I have a rack&nbsp;I built for the back of&nbsp;my toyota&nbsp;townace but&nbsp;only feel comfortable&nbsp;hauling the&nbsp;lighter vintage one.&nbsp;I use my mountain bike regularly for excersize&nbsp;sometimes to the shops but mostly &nbsp;I walk in the town I live in.&nbsp;&nbsp;Scooters are great fun, a nice inexpensive way to get around to explore and run errands.<img class="emoticon bbc_img" src="/images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif">

I have a 50 cc Vento Triton ( Chinese) that I look foreward to using once it gets some issues worked out. The Ruckus is a sweet little ride, but way out of my price range, even used.

Les H - agree that these can get expensive.&nbsp; A moped scooter should be less than $500 used, and less than $1000 new.&nbsp; Something you can mount on your vehicle to haul with you is what you need.<BR>&nbsp;
