Well, I think I've done all of the researching that I can do. My head hurts now. I have looked at many of your van/campers/RV's on this site and on others on the net. I would first like to say what a magnificent job you guys have done to your Van/Campers. You guys have made them so homey looking which is exactly what I'm looking to do to mine.

As I've said in my introduction post, I have a 1983 Ford E150 Conversion van extended back. I bought the van from my dad for the price of the tires, $400. My dad was the second owner of this van. This is a Tom Stimus Custom if any of you guys remember the TV commercials with him and Dusty Rhodes. The engine is 351 with an AOD trans. The engine is a recently replaced crate motor with a little over 20,000miles on the clock. She runs great.

What I'm starting on now is removing the two captain chairs and the bench seat/fold down bed in the back. Then next will be the carpet. I have new carpet ready to go back in after I check the flooring out which I know I'll have to work on in the back. The rear door seals are hard and cracked. Water has been leaking in and damaged the wood flooring some. No big deal.

The layout has been the most difficult for me as I couldn't decide how I wanted things. I think this layout is what I'm shooting for. I may extend the galley towards the back more and move the closet to the other side. The captains chair will be removed when stopped at a camping location for more room and replaced when on the road. That is is my son goes with us. If not, it will be removed and stored at the house.

There is a plugin at the back for land line power. I'll have to rewire it up correctly since someone did a sloppy job running the wires. I plan on adding a 2.7cu ft refrigerator, a 700w microwave and 19" LCD TV. I'll also need to run up to two computers for my astronomy work. My plan is to have a bank of two deep cell batteries and a 250w solar panel mounted on the top of the van to keep them charged. I'm thinking about around a 1500w or 2000w inverter to power the AC items and lights in the van.

This is the plan so far. It may change as learn more things about how to do this. I've built several muscle cars that I've owned in the past so working on vehicles is not new to me.

Anyway, that's where I stand at the moment on the van. I'm stoked about this project and can't wait to get her finished so I can start using it.

I'm open to any ideas you guys and gals may have for me on this project.

Thanks everyone.

Hi Galactic_eyes, I like the layout of the floor plan you posted. Also, you got a GREAT price on the van.
Keep us posted on your progress.
-Bruce

Looks like a sweet van and a solid plan. Can't wait to see the progress

I am curious why you removed the folding couch/bed?

I had one of these vans for years and it was a great bed.

Nice start on the van, keep it up!

@OnTheRoadAgain, I'm building a platform for a queen size mattress. That fold down bed is to small for two people. I'll also be able to use the space underneath for storage. It is comfy for sure, just to small. Thanks

I like the look of the windows as well, especially since they look like they would be easy to make snap in covers/insulation for.
-Bruce

You might think about replacing the 'chair" by the side door with something portable like a bean bag chair. They may be leftovers from the 60's but they are still comfortable and would leave the floor space open for different activities when there is rain/snow in the forecast.

@Wanderingrain & Ballenxj -Thanks, I like the windows also. I have thought about using the foam insulation cut to fit over the windows for privacy and added insulation.
@Terry - I'll have to leave it or at least make it removable. There may be times where there may be three of us. When we are stopped I'll remove it to give use more room.
