Waiting to sell my house and land so I can afford to get a van and get on the move before I die, which I don't plan on doing anytime soon by the way.  In the meantime, I am learning to prepare myself.  I can do it.

Indeed you can.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the CRVL forums forforests! Hope your house sells fast! In the meantime feel free to ask questions about anything and everything. There are a lot of decisions to be made before moving into a van and we're here to help any way we can.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

learning about it is very much a fun part of the adventure :)

Welcome. Yes, when it is time it is time :) get everything sold and hit the road and find tons of new adventures! Sounds great!

Practice in the backyard, while taking only what will fit in a van with you. Get a tent that is roughly the same size, and learn how to arrange everything. Cook outdoors, use only water from a jug, use only power from a battery, eat only what you can store easily, learn to keep yourself cool/warm.

Welcome to the CRVL Forums  :)

I see great advice in this thread.  And I think your attitude will more than enable you to be successful in doing this.

Learning about setting up a Van rig will be a good deal of your preparing.  Then building the rig.   Beginning to adopt a minimalist mindset so that everything you have in your rig may serve more than one purpose. (as much as possible) Then figuring out WHERE you may wish to go in your Nomadic journeys will or should consume a considerable portion of your time while you prepare to go on the road. (think:  "got purpose"...because your rig will have a life expectancy and you will want to make those miles count regarding things you've seen [and photographed],  events you've attended [meet up's etc], traveling to seasonal areas for comfort [snow birding etc], and to have a satisfying & fulfilling life that you didn't have in the sticks & bricks. (the reason for becoming a Nomad to start with)

You may benefit by viewing the websites below in my signature lines.  One is about setting up a Van rig and the other is about living on the road comfortably & safely once you are out there.
