Just picked up an old, 1979 Chevy Trans van and in the process of rebuilding it. Has a leak and P.O. used silicone on it. Any suggestions?

I used Eternabond tape on every roof seem, vent, etc. and front and back end caps. A 50 foot roll is about $52 on Amazon.

Silicone is obstinate stuff. Plastic scraper and a fine stainless wire brush followed by some acetone and paper towels. I recommend the no-sag Dicor instead of silicone. I see some spider cracks in there too so you might have to glob over those. If you use eterna-bond or peel-n-seal you can spray paint to match color so it's not so obvious. Another good repair for surface stuff like that if you don't have large gaps is aluminum foil tape, and you can paint over that too.

it's really had to tell what is going on from that picture. but for sure all the silicone must be removed, that's 100% removed. depending on where that is would decide what material to use. highdesertranger
