A few days ago, I sent an email to the landlord and asked if we could adjust the lease time period and they actually said yes!  We just need to give them a 30 day notice and we are good to go.  Don't have to wait until 7/2017!

It's scary and exciting ... my aunt who is recently engaged can move on with her life and I can really start realizing this dream.  I'm pretty excited and scared and we are both very emotional about the upcoming changes.  We've been a constant in each others life for over 10 years (longer than any of my marriages  :p ) ... major changes.

With the timing opening up I can really start downsizing in earnest ... I've just been puttering with sense of urgency.  Health issues don't allow a full out assault on things, but knowing that it can be 30 days away at our discretion does bring a little more giddy up to mind and step.

I'm going to have to finance whatever I get, put treasures not downsized in storage until I can get them to Florida (I'll probably tow a small trailer then), and figure out what to do with my 2008 Versa (financed 2 years ago - still paying - ugh).  Thought we had more time and now that it's here, I'm overwhelmed and happy and excited and scared. I could possibly be on the road in 2-3 months ... or at the very least in my own little rv-ish kinda thing.

Yee Haw!!! :)

Wonderful news. I to am working towards full timing it and wondering exactly when.In the downsizing and house selling stage/ Bast

Congrats! Just keep reading forums, blogs and youtuber's...it help get past the "OMG what am I doing???" jitters that pop up.

I spent last weekend on my first serious vehicle shopping trip up on the mainland, and I found myself going through a surprising swing of emotional states once it started feeling "real". My favorite youtube channels calmed me down   :)

Good news! Were all communications with the landlord via email? If so, make sure to print them out just in case the LL has a memory lapse.
Good Luck.

Ballenxj - good point!

He called to say yes to my emailed request but I requested he email what we had discussed.  Haven't seen it yet tho, but I'm still in the shocked stage so I'm up for it taking him a couple of days to get the email to us.  He knows I'm all about CYA communication as I'm always asking for written confirmation of phone calls.

You can send him an "as we discussed" email confirming the points.

He sent us email saying the year to year is now month to month with a full month notice.  this is just so cool. now that the shock is wearing off, i'm looking at all the stuff! lots, but i've given myself a mental 2-3 months to get it done - sorted, sold, given away, stored, buy a vehicle, get rid of car and then ... figure it out as i go.

Don't forget to print it. Sounds like there will be no problems though. I'll bet your landlord printed it on his end.  ;-)

Don't worry too much about the lease. Yes, legally you're obligated to the lease you signed but (being a landlord myself ) I can tell you that going after a tenant who has broken a lease rarely happens. The former tenant most likely doesn't have the ability to pay anyway. If a tenant moves out early , I just clean , paint and repair the place and rent it again - as does every landlord I know .
