Hi all,
It's good to be back here. I am posting as a newcomer as it's been awhile and things have changed a lot since I posted a few years ago.
A couple of years ago my partner and I left our jobs, sold our house and moved into a van to wander a bit and figure out how we want wanted to spend the next chapter of our lives. We ended up settling down temporarily while I return to school and pursue a degree of interest (and one that will support ongoing travel adventures). We try to get back on the road and take the van out when we can and are already planning to move back into the van for a while when I graduate. For now, we have settled for shorter van adventures.

We are planning to spend some time in ME around August. We've gotten some tips on stealthing in Portland bit I'd love to make it Acadia. Anyone have recommendations for boondocking sites in the area?
Thanks everyone

Welcome back !
The closer to Acadia you get the harder it will be to find booncocking.
Maine is a big state with a lot of similar looking coastline as well as great woods and lake area's to explore.
There are some free camping areas but usually far away from the "touristy" spots.

Welcome back to the CRVL forums, Dcosmc! New England can be very tough for free camping. Stealth camping is possible, but so many towns have ordinances against it. If you don't mind spending a few bucks Harvest Hosts is a good option

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks for the welcome and responses!
We built the van out to be stealth and had success with it when we were in the van more fulltime. We are native to upstate NY and have spent a lot of time in New England. I defenitly hear your concerns about boondocking out this way as there is limited public and blm land. That said, the adirondack region has a lot to offer but that is best saved for another thread.

I'll keep my eyes and ears open for any other ME suggestions and look forward to more conversations!

Welcome back  !   :)

I started out with week end's out when I was in University with an old Van.  I later picked up a small motorboat
for cheap that I could tow to the big Park & Lake to destress, do some fishing, and study in peace and quiet.
It's hard to beat a week end get away Van and it will open your mind to larger scale adventures.

I even learned to adapt mine to my first Corporate Career jobs so I could move quickly over a weekend
and be to work on Monday morning.   (being single I could do it where the "married with kids a house & dog" set
couldn't......and Father didn't want to constantly be away for extended periods of time)

Living in a Van or RV of some kind can be about more than just week end camping,  full time traveling in an RV,   or being (in some people's view) one step above homelessness.   Your only limit with this is your imagination.

Thanks! After we sold the house and left work we were in the van full-time for 3 months and went all over the counrtry. It was a really freeing experience and left us eager for more. I am pretty certain that when I am done with school we will have the chance to return to some larger scale and longer term adventures. Thanks for the welcome! Take care- DeDJ_ said:
