Just found this website in the past week or so. Dyn-O-Mite. Trying to soak it all up. I think my house is sold. Been under water til now. If it closes as expected, this single, twice divorced, 65 year young man is for sure gonna do this lifestyle. Currently getting ss and the chart for 1000 a month convinced me right away that this is for me. Leaning toward a van or cargo trailer. I want the Solar set up for sure. Bob, if your reading this, I went to store and got all excited about your buy the four and I would be solar. Anyhow the panels are out and discontinued. Have you some other recommendations cause I am flying blind in all of this and just gonna follow to the "T", what you have listed there. I have lived in AZ. since '87 and I love it here so I gonna stay but now I will be free, thanks to this website. I bought your book and expecting it in the mail today or tomorrow. Getting really excited about this.

Thanks and Love this website![/size]

RayCom, I'm so glad you're here!! Some random thoughts:

1) We're all different but I know MANY people who live on less than $1000 a month and live very well! I also know people who have $1400 or more a month and barely survive. It's too individual for me to make any promises, but I think you should be happy on $1000. What I can promise is you will be much better off in a van or RV than than paying $400-$600 for an apartment or a room!!
2) I'll answer your question on solar but you would be better starting a new thread and getting lots of peoples opinions. We have some experts here that shame me! I can't advise you on specifics without a of of information. Give all that in your new thread, budget, vehicle your putting it on, power needs, who will install it, those kinds of things. My shortest answer is there are some very good kits on Amazon that you can install yourself that will be your cheapest. If you want to buy better quality, go to Northern Arizona Wind and Sun in Flagstaff. They don't install them, but you can get it done in Flagstaff or install it yourself.

I'm not going to get back to Arizona till late this year, maybe even December, but be sure to look me up!! Plan to come out to the RTR in Quartzsite and meet lots of great folks!
Bob

Thanks Bob. I will do just that but first I gotta figure out the vehicle and my power needs. That is gonna take a little time cause now I gotta get house done and off my hands. That should start in mid Aug. In the mean time I am gonna do my best to devour this website and get educated.
Thank You!
Ray

Ray, welcome from one new guy to another! I had to lol when I read your "Dyn-O-Mite", although I'm a tad bit younger I knew immediately we're pretty much from the same generation ;?D Good luck and hope you succeed in transitioning to your new lifestyle, I'm looking forward to that myself sometime (sooner than later hopefully).

Hi Ray,
I don't have any source of power, it hasn't been a problem. I can charge my deep cycle battery at my storage unit. lol. What you need depends on what you plan to do.

Thanks guys. Yup I gotta figure it out. Actually beginning to think that I am gonna figure it out on the fly. I know I need a bed so I will start from there and hit the road. Then as needs make themselves known, I will attack with gusto. I suppose I will have to start with a vehicle first and then put the bed in it. LOL! Don't wanna get to excited yet, til I have closed on the house and I know I am free. Then I will let my self go nuts. Look forward to seeing y'all on the road and Quartzite for sure. Just gotta go there for the winter.

Peace - Out

My first van was an 89 dodge. At work one day, I saw a nice office couch being thrown out, so I put it in my van. That was my bed for several months. I currently have a big sprinter van, and my bed is a nice cot. The cot works well because I can fold it up if I need the room. My daughter moves every summer, so I need to empty the van and use it as a cargo van. If you go the cot route, I suggest getting a good one. My first cot failed. I've thought about rigging up a hammock, but haven't done it.
