How do you guys deal with the heat. Im actually in a old class c camper. Im sweating my butt off. lol... I hate to do it but I have to sleep with the windows down and the sliding windows and roof vents open and Im still hot. I dont have electric or a second battery to run an inverter. I feel pretty vulnerable with everything open. By the way this is my first night living in my camper

How about a 12volt fan from Camping World store? I have 2 of those in my own van. The fan has a clip at the end so you can clip it to many spots to find the right position.

We are surely in the dog days of summer! I turn my 5k unit on when I get off work of an evening and once the sun is off of the van for awhile it cools good. I miss the nights when it was cool enough to be comfortable without a/c. Congrats on the new lifestyle, I hope you like it I know I have enjoyed the last few years in the rv.

I saw one in walmart but im afraid it kill my battery, l only have one battery and its old. How long can I run it safely

I run the generator to power mine unless I'm near a plugin. The amp draw on the walmart 5k GE running from inverter would be around 50 amps at 12 volts. It's just not feasible to run a/c off battery in a mobile setup as the bank size needed, and amount of solar panels to recover daily would be tough to fit on anything but the largest rv. You might consider the tractor supply clearance sale running on the buffalo tools sportsman 1500/2000 watt generator that is currently $149. I ran one for two summers with no issues. The 1.4 gallon tank ran the 5k for about 9 hours.

I saw this on you tube and his original one. Its great because you can recharge your batteries at the same time the fan is blowing during the day. I would like to set this up too.

I was so where you are a week ago. I had decided not to have any power in my minivan but then it was sooo hot and uncomfortable. So I borrowed a jump start booster battery. It is smaller then a big battery but doesn't hold as much juice. I plug a 12 volt fan into it and recharge it when driving in my 12 volt plugin. It is the least costly solution i have found. I charge my electronics at the local library so all the power can go to cooling me off at night. I believe the 900 watt booster pack is $75 but not sure. But no need for generator or solar power with it.

Hope you find a way that works for you since I know it is uncomfortable to sleep in the heat.

That depends on where in the country you were/are at the time of your first post.

I have that fan. Mighty little thing it is!!!!

I have the O2 cool fan as well. I got mine at CVS pharmacy for $20, uses either 8 D sized batteries or has a 110v adapter. The adapter puts out 12 v at 1/2 amp which means that you can just cut the wall wart portion off and add a 12v cig lighter plug, or have a plug made up at radio shack. Also, you may want to check your roof, as a clean, white roof will reflect the heat far better than a grey or dirty one. When i painted my roof gloss white ( rustoleum) it lowered the i.side temp 15-20 degrees. try to think of shady spots to park, stay out of the camper till later if possible, and try to get some kind of aux power to help run fans etc. when you can.

Im in maryland, and its been pretty hot. My brother loaned me his inverter and I plugged in a small electric fan for approximately a hour and a half and the battery still started the camper but im still afraid to use it because I only have the one barrery. I dont know how long I have before it kills the battery. In a few weeks I should have enough money to buy and set up my second battery.

A typical car battery is somewhere around 40 Amp-Hours or better. So if you ran a 1/2 amp fan all night long you can run it for 80 hours without completely killing your battery. But batteries get problematic in extreme heat or cold (plus 90, or 32 and below), and would not run the battery more than half down, assuming a new battery. Your old battery may have only 3/4 of its capacity left in it.

Putting that all together you should have enough juice in any battery to run the 1/2 amp fan all night long for eight hours, without hurting your ability to start the car-truck-rv later. Just make sure you charge your battery in the car via a long one hour ride the next day. Else get a solar panel trickle charger for your dash, to put juice back into your car battery all day while sitting in the sun.

Take a tank shirt, soak in water, wring it out and put it on, then go sit in front of a fan. I've also heard of wrapping up in a wet sheet to stay cool at night.

I did that when we had a power outage. I didn't have a fan but I kept soaking a sheet in cold water and going on the up stairs porch. It was my dog and I. It was the only time my dog didn't mind the water. It kept us cool for 3 hours. We had 18 trees that gave a nice breeze

I have been using the wet wash cloth on my head and neck. It really helps. Im getting better at dealing with the heat. Ive only had two nights so far that were really bad.

Can't you at least get a small 12 volt fan. I hear they dont use a lot of power. People use it all night. As long as your charging your battery in the day time it should be no problem Are you near water or a park with a thousand trees, trees will give you a nice fan for no power. I just cut my hair and I can't believe the difference with the humidity. Heck I walked out and I felt the diff right away. You need to be careful the heat can be dangerous. Take care.

Heat is a major issue with me. I currently live in Las Vegas, NV. Need I say more? This city has some very hot days. I have to decide if I want to stay here and deal with the heat or move to a cooler area of the country. I may be moving to a cooler part of the country. So be it!

Even with the best insulation, etc. when the temps routinely get over 100 degrees 3-4 months of the year it won't really make a major difference where I go in Las Vegas. I've been here almost 26 years. I suppose it's time for a change of scenery!

was looking at some creative cooling this weekend at a super nice campground. There are people who have a cut out in there tent for an AC unit (regular size) and they put it on a palet and plug it in. very inexpensive creative.
