Is respecting each other really too much to ask??

I hold no 'beliefs'---preferring to cherry pick from all wisdom the world has on offer.
As willing to 'celebrate' Xmas as I'm happy to celebrate/honor Day of the Dead in Mexico
or traditional Buddist ceremonies with dancing & floating candles on the beach in Kuai.
All are celebrations of life!

This really isnt a political issue.  There is no call to battle.  The only side is the side of humanity.

If you do not like the political leaders - then become active to get ,more people to vote.  Less than 60% voted in the last election.

Because someones beliefs or opinion differs from yours does not indicate they are either ignorant or a fool

Yes our society faces a dichotomy, which we have faced before, and as such it is a turning point.  The present atmosphere has brought to light the ills of our society.  Racism, misogyny, intolerance, bigotry, and greed.  Yet each person is entitled to hold dear their beliefs and to voice their opinion, that is the foundation of our nation.  It is not the time to sound the bugle of battle and wage a war, it is the time to enact a peaceful resolution to the situation.

My belief was that the OP put forth the preposition that we as a nation should rise above the color of skin, a persons gender, lack of acceptance of a person due to their beliefs and their materialism.  If you find the status quo not to your liking then gather sufficient supporters to cast their vote on the day of election to put into power a different set of leaders.

The call to battle brings connotations of violence, hate, and anger.  These are not the solutions to any problem.

be careful here with the political and religious stuff. this forum is not for discussing either. there are plenty of places to discuss those subjects. highdesertranger

Bob's videos are pretty much always positive much like a lot of videos from campers.  I have a suspicion that the negative comments are made by those that are jealous and can't bring themselves to say something good because they are in a miserable existence.  That added to the relatively anonymous nature of online posting, folks will say things they'd never say face to face.

Exactly. And some people make trolling a hobby. They get a thrill from getting other folks riled up.

Roger that, Stranger...
But difficult to pull philosophical threads from the whole cloth without exposing the warp.

We survived the 'elephant in the room'---this will be a piece of cake.  LOL

I have always thought that Bob's message was one about there being "room for everyone" just across the board, and his message really did speak to that or at least, that is what I heard. Sort of if you don't feel like you "fit" where you are, he might have an idea for you. There was a comment about Bob's whatever we are or will be being a sort of plague to other full-timers and snowbirds. Just wanted to mention that those types of people that say that have been a thorn in my side every sense I heard about full-timing. We were too young and needed to "earn" the lifestyle, not bring kids into the lifestyle........ again, Bob's message is that there is "room for everyone". I actually got introduced to him in another forum where he posted a "frugal" budget that caught my eye.

I'm one that believes you have to earn respect, and really the only way to do that is acting in a respectful way. Yeah, there aren't a lot of people today that I respect.

While group hugs are nice and sweet and all...  cheap feels are far more exciting.

More exciting still:  Janis Joplin with Big Brother & The Holding Company from the iconic album
                                                Cheap Thrills!

I searched youtube till I found what I think the *best* of this album:  'Piece of My Heart'
...fidelity is decent & there's a wonderful video pastiche to accompany the performance.
The best thing that ever came out of Texas:  Janis Joplin

Hope you can dig it.  Peace & Love

Janis was amazing. Tragedy that we lost her.

Yes, & if that were not enough---
While poking around YT, just came across a Dick Cavett show---the *complete* one hour show
with John Lennon & Yoko Ono.  On the show Lennon premieres "Imagine".
Date of this show:
September 11th, 1971.   Weird.  (Think of that date:  9/11)

Another big issue is that many politically active and historically well-informed people perceive that our nation is at a crisis point, or at least on the verge of a major inflection.

On the other hand, the Internet is always full of political ideologues and cranks who think that their particular political ideology or religion is The Most Important Thing Ever (tm)(c), that it is their job as Savior of Humanity(tm)(c) to spread their Chicken Little Message to everyone everywhere at every time in every possible fortum, and who can't shut their mouths about it, ever, whether people wanna hear it or not. From both sides.

That is why some forums, such as this one, wisely have a policy of "no politics or religion"--to prevent the ideologues from making a constant pain in the ass of themselves and provoking lots of rancor and ill-will which in the end accomplishes nothing, changes no one's mind about anything, and just clogs up the forum with pointless preaching that nobody gives a shit about anyway.

I like Bob's delivery style--it's very down-to-earth and folksy.

I also always like listening to Vining. His delivery, cadence and "presence" are reminiscent of a baptist preacher. ;)

This thread brings up a widespread internet problem.

I'll just throw out an old line I once heard somewhere.
"Those people that think they know everything really annoy the rest of us that do..........................."

That said , a little story about my life in the pro audio biz.
I studied my a** off trying to keep up with the 7 trade mags I got every month as well as the HUGE tech curve that was always expanding . Every spare minute , I hit the books. Every book I could find that had anything about audio engineering , psycho acoustics , environmental acoustics as well as acoustical acoustics (is that a thing?) , gear specs , new wiring techniques ,,,,hell , it's endless , I know,,, now.
(frequently with a huge system of gear all fired up and at my little experimental fingers command)

Every time I got to a point I "thought" I was almost "there" ,,,,,,
I'd learn one little bit more that made me realize I wasn't even close to the top of the knowledge heap .
And that just kept on happening over and over as the time years by.

Never got to the point of "ALL KNOWING" and probably never will.......

One thing that I did learn though.
Always listen to the thoughts of others , there is always something new to learn .
Never dominate the conversation showing off all your "knowledge" cuz it will just prove you don't know everything !
So , to sum up.
NO you don't know it all , nobody ever has or will.

Sorry , (not really) . :p

The more you learn about any worthwhile topic area, the more aware you are of just how much you don't know. Like the circumference of your knowledge expands, touching ever wider universes of Unknown.

Only beginners that have learned the tiniest little bit, are ignorant enough to think that they know it all.

Dunning—Kruger effect

Popeye!
Have missed you.  Hope you had a good 'lobstah' dinner in the land
of 'real' winter.  Not like here, where we 'freeze' nearly to death
if overnite temps dip below 30 degrees.

I look forward to eventually joining you where the grass is greener
just as soon as I get my laptop cleaned up & privacy issues resolved.
I'm saving some stories for you once I get 'over there'.

Warm holiday hugs,
 Cha Cha

That’s exactly how I’ve always lived. I’m glad I learned early on that no matter what I think I know about something, there is always someone that knows way more. Part of the excitement of life for me is learning, and listening to those with more experience and knowledge. It’s a shamed the world is filled with too much ego and ignorance, and some know everything.

Negative comments could be from a number of reasons. Jealousy, fear, not comprehending the situation or lifestyle or just down right ignorance due to the fact that the lifestyle doesn't conform with the American dream. People just need to be more tolerant, more understanding and more accepting of different lifestyles. Apart from the respecting one another, people also need to accept and learn to compromise and live with the fact that the world is forever changing and so are the people in it.

If I may I would throw in my two cents.

Your post brought old memories back.  Our nation has been here before.  The same questions were asked then that your asking now.  I don't think anyone really knows how it all started back then, but it was at first dozens, then hundreds, then thousands - until finally it became a movement.

That movement changed the world.  Some of the changes faded away, some stayed to echo down through time.  Women no longer are forced to wear dresses whenever they are public, Men don't always have to worry about their hair touching their ears, and everyone runs around in blue jeans.

The movement changed our music and the music tried to put the feelings of the movement into words.  That is how we ended up with classics such as "Imagine" by John Lennon or "All You Need is Love" by the Beatles.

But your right in asking why cant everyone just do the things that let every person be who they want to be.  Why cant we all live without all the negative feelings?  I think Bob Dylan made a very poignant answer in one of his songs - 'The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind'
Bob Dylan is an amazing song writer and poet.  (Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Joan Baez, etc. as well.)
I don't care what is your age; we are all "Forever Young."
