Is it better to work night shift?

1st shift - live in traffic morning and evening, and can never get things done in the day time. Busiest shift of the day and all the big boss men and women patrol on this shift! But you can get sleep the easiest. Not good for a student who changes their schedule every quarter or so. If you work a lot of hours it doesn't matter what shift you are on.

2nd shift - the most flexible shift to get sleep. No social life time during the week, but it's an easy to get used to shift unless you are working on a busy second shift job: like condo gate security-guards that's busy on the second shift.

3rd shift - I like the flexibility You end up getting cat naps twice a day and it's VERY hard to sleep. Just make sure you get 20 minutes of 10am to 2pm Sunshine for your eye health (for any shift really!) Your circadian rhythm takes a while to adjust to, but you still want to sleep from 2am to 5am and then want to wake up when the Sun comes up. It's easy to burn the candles at both ends for a little while at least. Stay physically fit, get your 20 minutes of good Sunshine a day (but it's right in the middle of your noisy daytime sleep!), and get plenty of catnaps and it is a good working student schedule if the school is not a competitively hard one. Dang dogs barking in the daytime at the garbage men and people in their cars in the evening! (cat naps!)

No shift - the best of all! :)

If nothing else, it's great if you want to hang out at the beach. :D

I LOVE working nights. I find that if I make sleep a priority I can get my sleep and if I eat right I think my health is pretty high. I'm 32, single and live alone so that obviously isn't everyone's situation. In my situation I think a transition to living in a vehicle will be easier because I work nights. I work at a lake and within 3 miles of some prime lake front park property that stays open from the hours of 6 AM to 10 PM. If I'm "actively" fishing I can be out all night on the water. On my "weekend" I plan to head out and go boondock wherever suits my fancy and resupply for the week. I am lucky that my workplace has a shower and washer/dryer that I can use. I've worked my job for 2 years now and I can't imagine having any other shift.
