Like a few folks here, significant life change driving the requirement for alternative living space.

No real drama but I have a business that I believe in (pretty much wedded too) that does not make enough profit at this time to support a 'fixed abode'. The 'drama' part is the inability to focus, despite some interesting medication, on getting stuff out the door (typing this is a good example!).

Sleep space is the main consideration. The workspace has 24/7 access but continued hostel use is not really practical, let alone allowed (pretty sure most, including the building manager, know).

That's pretty much it for the meet and great at this point - the rest of the post may need to be bumped to another section - let me know.

I have a PT Cruiser that could work OK with some privacy/stealth mods (base model so not even factory tints). However, the meandering road of internet research led me through GMC/Chevy Astro and Safari vans, Ford Aerostars and full-size vans.

Although metro Portland seems to be relatively 'easy' to park and sleep in a vehicle (I should get some photos of the menagerie of off-beat rigs used around town) stealth would be important to me.

The Cruiser would work OK with max allowed tint but I'm leaning toward something with more space and greater stealth. Pretty much decided on a cargo van that can blend in with a greater variety of surroundings.

Something that looks decent and passes for a commercial vehicle without a second glance. As a plus, with some thought given to interior layout, I can use it for the business (I'm self-employed). Main business use would be picking up raw materials (lumber, sheet goods and packing materials) and dropping off boxes of finished goods to UPS (although with better planning UPS could pick up from the shop - YES to UPS!

At the moment most of this is done in the PT Cruiser and I Zipcar a Ford E-series for longer lumber pickups (I have however, had over 200' linear of 2x1 in 8-9' lengths and 2 strategically cut sheets of lightweight 3/4" MDF, a roll of 8x4 veneer and 25 flat pack cardboard boxes in at the same time in the Cruiser - called Barney for the purple color but maybe I should have called it TARDIS?).

So the part that really needs to go elsewhere is....

Ford or GMC/Chevy full-size cargo vans? I hear the Chevy van is better than the Ford for gas consumption/turning circle but would be really interested in getting feedback.

I have driven the Ford (Zipcar) and hate the steering (too much twirling to turn a corner) but otherwise I quite like it.

OK, got to go do something productive.

O, if anyone is thinking itsnotliving is too negative, I came up with it as an imaginary response to anyone that asks 'are you living here?'

I really like the sprinter van. My old one is for sale, it's a 2002, it gets 25 mpg on diesel, but I work hard at getting good mileage. It's bigger than my first college dorm room, and only has 400,000 miles. I'll let it go for $3,000. It looks like a cargo van, I've slept in it all kinds of places. I use garbage bags for curtains.
