The Honda van (I can never spell Odyssey correctly) also had issues with transmissions from 99-03, and even as late as 06'. In 07' they switched to the tranny from another Honda line and it's much better. However, as you mention, the VCM has never been fixed (due to CAFE standards).
Honda's also have problems (as do Sienna's and Dodge) with the power sliding doors. People also have to remember that Honda's have timing belts (which require replacement) not timing chains (which don't).
You see a lot of Honda vans from 2004 - 2010 for sale, mostly the EX-L trim which had the VCM (the LX and EX did not until after 2010).
