I'm finally just going to make this happen.

I'm long past the point where I hate going to work every day.  I live on the first floor of a two family house and I have a new neighbor that just moved in upstairs and all I'll say is that she's not very friendly and her acquaintances are undesirable and from certain activities that have gone on since she moved in two weeks ago make me feel not so safe anymore.

So I was venting to my sister on the phone earlier and she said it looks like it's time to make my van dwelling dreams happen instead of looking for another apartment.  And I can finally stop talking about it and do it.

So we've made a plan to start Saturday and she is going to help me go through everything in my apartment and put it in piles of sell, donate and trash.  We are going to take pictures of everything and create a webpage of everything for sale so I can link it to Facebook and craigslist and then whatever doesn't sell in the next two weeks I will post an "estate sale" and have an open house.

I hope that I can make enough from the sale to buy a van outright without a payment.  I have a lot of nice furniture, a couple big flat screen tv's, and a bunch of other stuff so I'm hoping I can make about $10k, give or take.  Then I'm going to give my 30 day notice to my landlord and move in my sisters house.  Well I'm going to sleep on her couch for a couple weeks until I can get my van to the point of living in.  Then I'm going to sleep in her driveway at night but use her shower in the mornings so I can keep my "corporate job" so I can stash away a ton of money since I won't be paying rent.  I'm thinking if I live super cheap for the next six months I can save enough money that will keep me on the road for a while, and even longer since I'll find jobs here and there while on the road.  While I'm staying with her I will finish the van and by the first of the year I will be leaving town and heading to the RTR 2017.

That is my plan.......time to make this a reality instead of just talking about it all the time.

Oh yeah! nice to finally be moving forward I bet. Accept that there will be hic ups along the way, but they are just that, hic ups. Keep moving forward and you'll get there sooner than you think.

Now thats the spirit!.... Sometimes, all you need is a good sounding plan. It maybe bullocks... but its  a good sounding plan.. :-D

Plans are only daydreams until you take some action. You will run into obstcles, but instead of giving up the plan, just try another way to achieve it.

Bullocks?  Geez thanks for the support.  lol  Yes it's a good sounding plan, I know it's not going to go smooth but at least it's a plan and I'm taking steps.  :)

Glad to see you moving forward. I've followed your post for while.
My goal, although I am not in charge of the exact timing, will be in Oct. Hope to meet you at the RTR.

Thank you, it would be great to meet you at the RTR and everyone else.  I was envious while watching others attending the last one and I really hope I attend the next.  Good luck with your plans as well.

that's my plan and I AM STICKING TO IT. good for you, keep us up to date. highdesertranger

Hi Cheli,
Congrats on a major step moving forward! We might both be escaping Weymouth around the same time. A lot of people in this town use the POW term......Prisoner of Weymouth as this place has a way of holding people hostage their entire lives! I know i've been a victim of it myself, but this year I'm breaking the curse! My trailer is ordered, just impatiently waiting for the call saying it's ready to be picked up so I can start on the build.

Matt

Hey Matt,
Yes Weymouth has a way of doing that do us but I gotta get out of here......I can't take it anymore. I can't Massachusetts anymore! LOL

Congrats on the trailer order, I'm heading out in the next week or so to see what I can do to trade my car for a van. If my plan stays somewhat on course, between selling everything and crashing at my sisters for a few months I should be able to pay off the van by the end of the year (hoping to not have to spend too much money for a decent reliable one) and have some savings to survive on the road for a bit until I figure out how to make money on the road.

We are neighbors, I'd be interested to check out your build progress sometime.....maybe it'll give me some ideas and motivation to keep moving forward. :)

hehe! I get ideas that sound utterly bullocks all the time! The important part is that you've picked a direction, and now your steaming ahead..... bullocks sounding or not...

You crossed that line in the sand !
How's that make you feel ?
Just details from here on .......
The whole tribe will have your back , lean back and enjoy !

It makes me feel awesome AND terrified!!!!!!  My fear is that I sell everything and still can't manage to get a van and have money to get out of here.  Then I have an empty home and nowhere to go.  I know realistically that won't happen but it's the fear of breaking away from my established career etc.

But it's time, I need to do this.......it's rooted deep down in my soul and I'll be miserable until I find out if it's the lifestyle for me or not.  I don't want to regret what may have been.

I know I have an abundance of help and support here so that will push me through.

Thank you.  :)

Worst case scenario, you use some of your money for a down payment and take out a car loan  for the rest.  You park in your sister's driveway for an extra year, working at your current job until it's paid off.  Hey, it's better than paying rent on an apartment!

There are always options for Plan B, Plan C, etc.

You're right!  For some reason I have my goal as the first of the year but yeah, of course, I can always just stay at my job longer and with my sister until I can leave if I don't make my goal.  Although I have to admit, I'm not looking forward to staying here for another Boston winter.  LOL  Now that's motivation right there.

If I wasn't paying rent and utilities I can easily save $2k a month, if not more depending on how thrifty I am.  I just need to stop looking for the "perfect" van, I don't need it to be as new as I want it to be.

Thanks for the virtual dope slap......I needed that.  hahaha

good idea.... the first of the year is six months away, ambitious is July 5th. it takes a couple of weeks to slowly empty your apartment working after work, a couple of hours to buy a van, a couple of days to fit it out to start, 5 minutes to fill up the tank, 1 hr to get groceries and 30 seconds to quit your job. that is 16 days, 3 hrs,5 minutes and 30 seconds, so that brings us to July 15th, 11:05.30 am... have fun.

Hahaha. Good point Kurbmaster, maybe I'll do it sooner than the first after all.....that would be great. But I do feel I need some sort of savings built up since I'll have a van payment and don't know yet how I'll make money on the road. But you make a great point and will move up my goal date for sure! Thanks for the words of support.
