Yes, that's Madison, south dakota.  I drove out there and met Terri in person, of mydakotaaddress.com.  She seems really efficient.  I didn't have my birth certificate, so when I tried to get a South Dakota drivers license, they took my picture, but just gave me a piece of paper called "temporary drivers license", and punched "void" in my Michigan license.  So I had to get a birth certificate.  I got on the internet, and I saw that Oklahoma was "partnered" with a private company, vitalchek, so I clicked.  They charge about $20, and they have you upload scans of the documents you need to proceed.  I was wondering if it was a good idea doing it like that, but I got my birth certificate in about 2 or 3 days.  Then I sent one copy to the South Dakota drivers license office, and I just heard from Terri that my license came.  So I told her to send it to the address I'm at.  Then I'll get a passport.  Lots of times in my life it would have been good to have a passport.  And I might want to visit Japan.  You need a South Dakota drivers license to get the best price on car insurance in South Dakota.  Then I'll get my license plates, and I'll be a complete South Dakota resident!

The rate Terri charges for her service is the same for 2 people, so my son is also using my South Dakota address.  To do this, he also has access to the email address I gave Terri for her to use to inform me about my mail.

Thanks for the info. I'm planning to change residence from WA to either SD or TX in the next few years. Keep us abreast of how things go, OK?

I became a South Dakotan almost 2 years ago. I've met Terri, and she and her crew are great! I highly recommend them.

HOWEVER, if you need to get healthcare coverage, be aware that SD did NOT do the extended Medicaid thing (not sure I have the name right though I knew at one time LOL). What that means is that last year when Obamacare was available through the national marketplace while states put their system in place, I had coverage for a very reasonable amount of money. For 2015, however, because SD did not do what was needed, I fall through the cracks. I make too much money for subsidized healthcare of any kind but not enough to be able to afford healthcare on my own.

Terri acknowledges that this has become a problem for many in the state.

Bob did a post within the last month or so, I believe, mentioning which states do have Healthcare Marketplace plans that offer national coverage (versus "in network").

My van has actual RV insurance for fulltimers through SD -- which means up to $5,000 of household contents are covered in addition to standard vehicle coverages. I feel it is fairly cheap insurance at under $600 per year. The cost of vehicle registration did jump a bit over $10 this year from last -- it was just under $100 to do the registration renewal online this month (with those convenience fees).

Hope that gives folks some general idea of costs. And a warning if you need health insurance until you qualify for Medicare.

Think bob got residence in Florida. Mostly because the insurance is better rates maybe? Guessing.

No, I'm still a Nevada resident. I was considering becoming a Florida resident when I was visiting my mom there in March, but you have to bring the vehicle in to check the VIN and I didn't want to drive it back there.
