Once again, I find myself posting something that is a concern in the trucking and transportation industries and starting a thread about it here, because I am sure some of our members are using either (or maybe both) of these drugs.
Certain brands and forms of metformin (for type 2 diabetes) and rantidine (Zantac brand for heartburn) have been recalled by the FDA. They have higher than allowed impurity, called NDMA, or nitrosamines. Nitrosamines are a known carcinogen, if consumed in large doses over many years.
You should not stop taking metformin until you have consulted with your doctor! Repeat! Call your health care provider if you are taking this medicine...get the latest info from them.
You should look at the brand on the packages, and then consult these webpages:

https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safe...pdates-and-press-announcements-ndma-metformin
https://www.fda.gov/safety/medical-...-ndma-found-samples-some-ranitidine-medicines
You may end up talking to your pharmacist who may be able to supply you with an alternative.
I'm not a doctor, so PLEASE consult someone else, I am only summarizing the recall. To get the full details, click the links above.
And, dare I say it: As if we needed something else to worry about. Geeze.
