I notice the shoulder part of my seat belt is loose and sags, especially when I exit the vehicle. I'm constantly pulling the shoulder strap back up. When I'm driving, the shoulder strap is fine and is tight enough, it's only when I exit the vehicle that the shoulder part sags down. Is it possible to tighten this? The waist part of the strap is fine, only the shoulder part is loose.

I called my van conversion shop, and they told me to call a Ford service dealer. I called a Ford service dept, and they told me I probably need to buy a whole new seat belt assembly that costs nearly $500 for each side. Geez! I have a 1995 Ford E150 conversion van.

Unfortunately, I already sold my 2 middle captain chairs, so I can't swap out the 2 front captain chairs. I'm just curious though, are the 2 middle captain chairs swappable for the 2 front chairs? Would the seat belts work?

I did a Google search on this topic, and apparently others have the same saggy shoulder strap problem:
http://www.f150online.com/forums/1997-2003-f-150/435889-sluggish-shoulder-seat-belt-retracter.html

One person in the above article link recommends to use Elmer's Slide-All Dry Spray Lubricant. Anyone try this???
http://www.elmers.com/product/detail/E450?filterPath=4oz

Seatbelts are not servicable, probably for liability reasons. They normally don't cost over $150 for the part, assuming it doesn't have the explosive re-tract mechanism for car accidents, which I am sure yours doesn't. Probably a 1 hour labor charge. I would look around the pricing seems a bit steep.

The spray lubricant seems interesting, but whats to stop it from getting on your clothes?

ha ha, I was going to say it must be a ford. all of our ford ranch trucks do the same thing. my buddy's f 150 also. I would say live with it. highdesertranger

That's good to know! Funny, but not at the same time, haha!

Question please: Does the sagging shoulder seat belt make it unsafe?
Should still work in providing safety while driving, right?

Thanks, Casey

Do you mean the belt doesn't retract completely?

Could be the spring roller is dry or dirty.

The belts anchor to the van, not the seats??

in our f 250's they retract into the seats. well they are supposed retract and they actually do if you play with them. one of them does the lock up tight thingy. these truck are 2001 and 2005. on another note the belts on my 1978 chevy still work great. highdesertranger

My Ford service rep says seat belts cannot be tightened (serviced). Only thing to do is to buy a new part, which costs quite a bit. I guess I need to learn to live with this, haha.

For legal and liability reasons the dealer cannot service them, but you may be able to.
