I enjoy visiting this site and look forward to meeting fellow travelers in the future.

Welcome from New Mexico...Owl. How about a little about yourself. It is nice to know a bit about folks when they join. Doesn't have to be real personal..just a little general info...thx,
bri
I am currently in Sacramento, Ca. My dog Kate and I are fulltimers in a fiver. I am retired but--- Kate and I kayak, bicycle, hike, explore. We laugh alot and chase squirrels and cats. I'm thinking about spending the summer in the 395 corridor of the eastern Sierra. I have participated in mountain man rendevouxs and medieval festivals recently. Lots of fun! I go on tangents and read a book a day. Probably won't make the RTR this summer but would like to in the future. Looking forward to meeting you guys down the road!

By the way bk2valve, I spent five tours operating out of Panama City, Panama and am considering relocating there.

I love 395, It is one of my favorite drives in the country. Right now I am about 1 1/2 miles off 395 just north of Victorville, CA. Where will you park the 5er? I am looking for Mountain Man Rendezvous, do you have any you recommend? Do you go in authentic gear? Bob
Probably go over hwy. 88 into Hope valley south of Tahoe and spend some time near Blue lakes. Then on over to 395 and head south. Lots of roads, mostly to the east, off 395 which offer some good spots. Bridgeport to Independence, either direction from 395 offer some great spots.
Probably the best rendezvous is the Pacific Primitive, which is in June. This year it's in Idaho, but it rotates locations every year and will probably be in southern Oregon next year as it was last year. Yes, I am authentic when I participate. Most all rondys have a day open to the public when you can attend in regular clothes and talk to folks who are happy to give you direction and help. Google rendevouxs and you will find events in every area of the country. There are serveral in the San Bernadino mountains every year. I haven't attended any of these but am told they are quite good. Many of us who enjoy the Mountain Man era find like minded individuals and do scouts or encampments on a smaller scale and thus avoid the inevitable politics that seem to come with organizations and clubs. Take care.

Welcome Owl. Bet you have a lot to offer for interesting info.

Hi Owl, welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here.

Thanks everyone, it's really cool to be welcomed. Seems like everyone is in such a hurry nowadays they blow right by you. yesican, I really enjoy helping folks and sharing my experiences. I hope I can be a worthy addition to this forum.

Hi again Owl....I just saw your aside to me....

I would love to sit around the fire and hear some of your stories about Panama. I loved it there. It is still on the shelf as a possible home for us.

I know we have a veteran with us here who was involved in the US invasion of Panama and has a pretty dim view of Panama as you might guess....being a combat veteran of a war is a definite attitude changer...or an innocent bystander...

I am sorry he had to go through that. It is really a pretty cool place full of really cool people...of course I feel that way about every place I travel to....
Bri

bk2valve, I was working for our government while there also. My duties took me all over C. A. and a little into S.A. While not on duty I lived in P.C. with my team. I have traveled over much of the world and haven't been treated any better anywhere else. The interesting thing about cities, in my opinion, is they are the same all over the world. Big, noisy, hurried and dirty. Get out in the country and on the local economy and you will see a big difference. Treating the locals as equals, trying to use their language is truly rewarding.
I love C.A. and the people. When you do some research on Panama you will find it has a lot going for it. I too look forward to sharing a fire and stories. Take care
I guess you know I was just in Panama and met a lot of expats there. I really enjoyed everything about it and in talking to some of them I see there are a lot of benefits to senior pensianados....
In Central America I have only been in Belize, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama and in SA only Peru so have a lot of traveling there to do yet.....

I too love the Latin American culture...

Later,
bri
