Glad I found this forum. I've been planning another van conversion for a couple of years. I don't know why but the bug has bitten again. I've done three since I was in high school more than forty years ago, mostly low-key but still comfy. I've lived in in them in the past and really enjoyed it.
Something in me keeps bringing me back to the life even though I have a nice place in the mountains.....
At any rate I'll post as I have something interesting to add but really enjoy the builds and thoughts about this way of living.
I'm thinking of my next build to be like a tipi inside, everything nomadic and lightweight, stealth on the outside and ready to go in an instant. Any suggestions? Or anyone done this already?

Welcome to the site. What do you mean 'like a tipi"? Are you burn a fire in the middle of your van with a whole in your roof????? heehee I'm kidding but am curious what you are thinking with the tipi.

OK I'll try and put into words some thoughts on this. I'm thinking that this time around I'd like to have lots of legroom in a regular size van which means less of the built-in things. Everything should be able to roll up and put away and still be useful in that way. Think like a mattress rolled up makes a good seat back. The stowaway things can be made of painted rawhide, some tanned hides for comfort and looks, in other words just like in a tipi. No sorry, no fire in the middle but plenty of subdued light and perhaps a skylight. Again, just dreaming here.
Oh yeah one more thing. Since we have a tipi we spend a lot of time in, in the summer. All the furnishings can move between van and tipi. I'll get some pictures to illustrate but got to go to work now. Carlos

Carlos

We've had both: a fully equipped Class B and a basic van where we slept on an over-padded floor. Basically a mobile metal tent. Both have their pluses, but we are basically campers, and the bare bones van worked as well as the B. Better, in some ways.

Welcome to the crew, and good luck with your next project.

Welcome Carlos! I'm anxious to see your "Tipi"! Sounds interesting. I do a lot of primitive camping but really like having my "comforts" on a daily basis.

Marsha & Thor
