I am getting ready to build a simple living space in my ARE commercial truck shell. I was looking for ideas and came across this site. Thank YOU Bob! I love the site. My head is spinning with ideas. I have been retired since 2006 and my spouse is a work demon. She likes to be busy. I, on the other hand, want to travel simply for months at a time. Thus, the idea of a truck build. Simple to park, maintain, portability and stealth. I love it. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to post their ideas on living in your vehicle. I look forward to meeting you at a RTR.

Welcome to the CRVL forums, scooterdog! The ARE shells are great. You've been around, so you know pictures are compulsory. Can't wait to see what you do!

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

I know many couples who don't share their wanderlust and they compromise and one spouse travels while the other stays home. It often works extremely well and their relationship is actually improved by it or at least not harmed.

I lived in a tall shell on my F150 for 2 years and I loved it even though it was a tiny space. It can be done!

We're glad you're here!
Bob

Glad to hear you lived in a F-150 Bob, because that is my vehicle. We have a travel trailer, but I want to go cheap, fast and light. Can you tell I am an avid backpacker by the cheap and light sentence . The pickup with a shell, seems to match that equation.

My shell was homemade and 4 foot tall so I could almost stand upright. The drawback of most standard shells is their low height. I could do it short term but not for long.

Bob, you have some mad skills, that is a great camper. The ARE I have is a wedge, so sitting in it I am very comfortable. Well for once in my life being short has come in handy. I can easily see how this would be very hard on your back as a permanent abode. Fortunately I am still pretty limber.

I hope to start the build within the next 30 days, I have some family stuff I need to take care of first. Once I began, I will throw up some pics. I am finding all the info about insulation and power use fascinating. Thanks to all the patient people who have answered all the questions again and again.
