Hi everyone, just joined up today. Been watching Bob's videos for a few months now and am ready to take up living in a van.  I have had it with spending 1000's of dollars each and every month to live in the same ole house, see the same boring town and go to Church with the same people saying the same thing if you miss a few weeks..."Oh, we missed you".  When in fact they haven't missed you, they just don't know what else to say after not seeing you for months. I just could never figure out why we could not be friends the other 6 days of the week, just on Sunday..lol

I used to be a truck driver and got a good dose of what is out there to be seen, my only problem was that I never had enough time to stop and really appreciate what was there.  Now that I have the time to see and explore, it's time to get out and do it...Yeah, I have been reading Thoreau's "Walden" and it has opened my eyes.  I has always heard about Slab City and I want to go to see it.  Been over Eisenhower pass several times, but could'nt or wasn't brave enough to take a 18 wheeler off of the interstate and I always have been wondering was is off the "Big Road".  I want to go to Colorado and walk into a store and legally purchase marijuana....Just once...lol.

Welcome Bob to Bob's forum!
Sounds like you already have big plans. All the best!

Welcome to the CRVL forums GreatefulNomade! I always feel sorry for truckers, speeding down the interstates and missing all of rest of the country. ;-) You are going to have such a great time traveling on the back roads! Keep us updated!

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome aboard !
Like you , I had a job that required no stops or even detours to take in the sights .
I've been traveling on my own itinerary since '03 and enjoying travel much more now !

Welcome to the forum. You don't need much to travel, so you don't have to wait until you have the "perfect " vehicle. Some people travel the world with just a back pack. Two groups that you may wish to look into are couchsurfers and boondockers welcome. I host for both, and have two young hitchhikers traveling from France staying with me at the moment. I live in a house, and let people stay the night in my RV. Another arrives tomorrow, (through couchsurfers). With Booddockers Welcome, people have their own rigs and I just give them a parking space.
