Hello everyone I'm so excited my registration confirmation finally arrived in my e-mail so I can start posting.

I have to say that I've basically been a lurker of the van dwelling community on and off again for a little over a year. I started researching for building my own camper van and of course found cheaprvliving.com right away and have been a fan ever since. I've also from that site been introduced to some of you and again, have been lurking and LEARNING so much from you all, so I want to say a BIG thank you to everyone for blazing the trail ahead of me.

A little about myself: I am now a married 47 year old mother of 2 grown sons. I grew up living in vehicles for a few years as a child (about a year in a VW van & 2 full years in a Winnebago RV) so I caught the wanderlust bug from my parents. We (hubby and I) want a campervan and we want some adventure.

I have always loved camping (something I learned from both mom and dad) but my husband's idea of "camping" is to stay at a hotel with a swimming pool and hot tub. Ever since we've been married it's been my quest and goal to devise the most comfortable and efficient system for camping... so we could camp MORE. We've used tents, we've backpacked, and for the last few years we've used a pop-up. But lately both of us are more and more dissatisfied with the constant setup/takedown involved. We want to be able to just pack up our clothing/food and jump in the van and GO. So we are going to be building a camper van ourselves and I know that I've come to the perfect place to learn how to do it right. We are getting ready to purchase our van and get started, hopefully that transaction takes place before the end of the month.

In the meantime!!!!!

Of course since I've been researching the subject for awhile there are certain bits of info that have certainly stood out as impressive, really seriously, BOOKMARK worthy.... and just yesterday I ran across these videos for the first time, and ahhhh... I want to offer this up in case you all haven't seen it yet. Let's just say it's impressive in a different kind of way! hahaha. I affectionately call this "What NOT to do when designing a campervan" - these three men are clearly the 3 Stooges of the campervan world.

http://videos.sapo.pt/VNIGPgkpSNRhRhupEJw8

http://videos.sapo.pt/0vYrguTa4aFZ0enbghjv

Seriously, I haven't had such a loud, long, and hearty laugh like I had watching those in such a long time. I guess that a community such as this one could really "appreciate" their efforts. I hope you enjoy those videos as much as I have.

So anyway, nice to meet you all, hope you don't mind if I pull up a chair and stay awhile.
Tracy - "avidcamper"

Hello, avidcamper! I'm new here, too. Sounds like you and your husband are going to have a good time van camping. I look forward to reading more posts about your adventures.

thanks guys (& gals!)

I'm happy that we are close to taking that plunge and getting the van. My husband has vacation days next week and it would be amazing if we could be doing some "remodeling" during that time.

hahaha I thought so too, I have never heard or seen a Top Gear anything before, but those guys are some serious FUNNY! I'm going to have to subscribe to them.

I've watched those videos a few times over already even though I've just discovered it 2 days ago... it does occur to me that there are some real issues dealt with even though they take a look at those issues through the lens of silliness.

Dealing with night time cold, vehicle stability, issues of privacy while conducting hygienic functions (lol!!! that vision of the "roof top poop"!! hahaha - omg, I'm laughing still) those are all things I'm trying to keep in mind as I think through what we need to do for our conversion.

So, there are some valuable lessons to be learned there, but those guys are straight up ridiculous! And I love it
