I figured I might as well say hello because this lifestyle is my dream.
I recently left my wife because she's become too obsessed with material things, and she always wants them bigger and better. I used to own a couple of furniture stores, and I always dreamed of living in my delivery cube van. I am living in a small motel room now, and even it is more room than I want or need. I think I have a nomadic soul. I dunno.
I am leaning towards a converted cargo trailer ( I actually own a 20 foot cargo now, but it is too large for my needs so it is for sale). I think many people become fixated with houses because it gives them a sense of permanence in a very impermanent world, and the bigger and better the house, the more secure it makes them feel. I have accepted this life for what it is, a fleeting flutter of organic existence, and the mobile lifestyle exemplifies that.

Anyway, I will be joining your ranks once I get a few things sorted out.

You really do get it.
Welcome aboard, FS!

I went the converted cargo trailer route myself a few years ago, & I still have it. Building this thing was one of the best decisions I ever made, & it really turned out surprisingly well! However, even though I crammed it full of every creature comfort I could possibly fit into it, at only 5x8, it's too small to actually LIVE in (for ME anyway), but it's perfect for camping & extended road trips! I wouldn't part with it for the world!

Hope yours turns out to be even HALF as satisfying of a project!

Thanks, I appreciate the welcome! I still have my cube van too, but it burns too much gas to be an option, although I have used it many times as an alternative to an expensive hotel when staying overnight in local cities. My store had sewer issues and I was using a portable plastic seat with a garbage bag (or two) attached for quite a while, so I'm already used to the latrine routine. I have a Mazda 4-liter pickup, so I think my ideal trailer would be about 8' wide by 14' long. The thought of starting from a bare interior excites me! But I have to liquidate my remaining furniture, sell some real estate, and pay down some debts. I hope to be working on my trailer by springtime! I'll be limiting my travels to Atlantic Canada, because this is home, the people here are great, and there's lots of wilderness, so I won't be worrying too much about crime issues, although it does happen occasionally.

I remember back in the 1990s, I had a 53' trailer for storage, and I thought to myself, "Hey, I wanna live in this!"; and the same thing happened with my cube van and cargo trailer. Then I got married and lived the traditional life for a decade or so, but didn't feel fulfilled. I was thinking of setting up a yurt behind the motel and living there, but that wasn't mobile enough for me. I thought about a wooden sheepwagon too, but that kind of tosses the stealth concept out the window.

Anyway, thanks again. I've got lots of reading and dreaming to do!
