Hi my name is Mary. My husband and I are planning on selling our house in a few years and moving to van life full time. We are in the process of launching our children to independence, fixing up the house for sale and saving money so we can retire early and start traveling. We camp a lot right now and think we will be comfortable with this life style. Our original goal was to spend a month in each of the 48 states. We are thinking we will be hitting the road in 3-4 years. So for now I am gathering all the information I can before we get started.

Welcome! As a couple full timing you may find you need more room or need to simplify your lifestyle more than when camping.

Welcome Mary (and husband) to the CRVL forums! As Bullfrog said, you will need more space than when camping because everything you have will be with you. Of course there is always the option of a storage place to "home base" out of. The wife and I fit nicely in a class B plus.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome, Mary . . . I hope you'll have a wonderful retirement adventure. I have a large van and with only one person it still seems too small sometimes. I have a tendency to take along too many things.

Dntpanic - welcome to the forum. Sounds to me that your on the right track. One thing I would strongly suggest. Stop buying. Only spend on what you absolutely need. A nest egg not only gains some income but the peace of mind is so worth it. Knowing you have the the resources to repair or replace you rig and belongings will make all your travels much more enjoyable than you can imagine. Even if you never have to use those emergency funds having them there can be the difference between misery and joy. And fear and peace.
