Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce my self. My name is Jan and I live in Prague Czech republic. For the past year or so I wanted to change my life, at first I though I would pack and set off on a journey accross Europe towards Turkey on a bike. During that time, new job came up and everything was post poned, about 6 months ago, I started thinking again and came accross few chanels on youtube on Vandwelling and bondocking.

Couple months later I purchased a 98 VW T4 and at this time I am slowly converting it and I should be moving in by end of the next week.

Well I will mainly browse the forums for now...

Jan

He's certainly the coolest Czech I know anonymously through a series of tubes.

Is there much boondocking in Europe? Forgive my ignorance of current European geography and population density, are there places to wander off and go camping?

No way I would boondock over there.

Hostel is a 2005 American horror film, despite the fact that most of the film is set in a fictional location near Bratislava, Slovakia, not a single sequence was actually shot in Slovakia. It was filmed at the Barrandov Studios, Prague and in Český Krumlov, Czech Republic.

Hello and Welcome to the forum Jan!!

Love the T4~ What do you do for work?? Got a significant other?? What kinda things do you like to do?? Ever been over here to the U.S. of A.???

What's the scene like for camping and mobile living over there?? I know there are ALOT of mobile dwellers over in NZ, but I know very little about life in the Czech Republic.

Well...I hope you like us here in the asylum, and feel free to ask for anything you may need help with setting up your new digs.

WHO??????

Where there's roads, there's van dwellers.

Welcome! Looks like a good ride. Build pictures are always cool.

Hey all to reply to some of you.

I lived in the US of A for 10 years. Moved there at the age of 10 and moved back to Europe one month before turning 20. I live in the windy city and later moved to the sun shine state which I miss very much.

I currently work for a huge American consulting company and I work for the IT department, sadly I cant work from home or the road, and I need to sit behind a desk 8 hours a day.

I have a girlfriend that I have been with for 4 years and have been living with for 4 years, well until now since I live in a Van :D she travels with me over the weekends and we also have a 4 year old dog named Amik meaning the American.

Jaromir Jagr is also known as a traitor to some hockey fans after jumping teams :D

Otherwise, boondocking is very easy here if you have a Van. Theres lots of construction vans all over Europe, so parking is not a big issue at all. RV is a different story though, I considered getting one but we dont have to many stations here where you could empty and refill your tanks, so it might be pretty darn complicated in Czech republic. Germany is a bit better but still not great.

We don't have stores like Walmart where you could park over night. Some stores are opened 12 or 16 hours, but I never though to park at any of these places. I prefer to park as I would park my normal car, my black tinted windows and small curtains do a very good job at keeping the van private and not to much light escapes when I watch movies. The nice thing about Europe is the fact that I can go to any country I want without dealing with visas and all the other crap, I just get up and go. Leaving for Germany this Friday and Italy and Slovenia in two months actually.

Money wise, the income is a bit lower here than in the US, however the living is a lot cheaper. A 3 bedroom flat can run you about $400 and the food for a month about another $100. Prague is full of Americans and British that came here to work and save money. They spend most of their cash on beer though :D

The T4 is amazing, I dropped quiet a bit of cash into repairs but she runs very smooth, so far a very simple set up inside, bed, table, plastic shelves and that's all. I will post a picture as soon as I can, otherwise I went for the lightest set up as possible because of fuel consumption, at the moment I do about 8 liters per 100km...I have no idea what that is in miles but around 44miles per gallon please correct me someone.

Camping is possible everywhere cowboy, Europe is still mainly nature and sometimes its 10km from one city to the other with a small village of 5-10 houses along the way..more nature than cities

Oh, and hostel was horrible and so was Euro trip, though Absinth is very real and legal :)

Yeah I don't know about very many of those types of movies. They're not really my thing. I was just wondering how many narrow dirt roads have a nice little clearing at the end. That type of getting lost in hundred year old footsteps that makes me, or maybe us, feel a feeling nothing else can touch. I've been doing some reading aabout how it is over on your side. I'd sure like to wander around there for a while.

Have some fun for me and be sure to post once in a while about what you're world is like.

Welcome to the forum. Great van you have there, I'm jealous! Is that the camper van version with sink and stove? Or the passenger van version with the extra seats? Either way, cool van! Wish you lots of fun. Keep us posted. Did you used to live in California? Or what sunny state were you referring to?

Cowboy, there are many dead end roads. Lot of it leads to forests, lakes, or just fields. I love Europe, I just went blueberry picking two weekends ago into a forest south of Prague. You can walk into the wild and eat wild apples untouched by chemicals, car fumes or any other factor. Cherry trees are growing even in the city centers where you can pick them if you want.

But theres also a lot of negative sides to Europe and Czech in general, however there are lot of cool things about it. If any of you guys ever decide to visit drop me a line. I can host you in one of our apartments for free.

Otherwise the T4 was a 5 seat vehicle so everything on the inside was taken out, I left the drivers seat, and passenger seat. My bed takes up most the space but lot of storage under neath. At the end of the bed I have a plastic closet containers stacked on top of each other. chairs and folding table is under the bed along with the cooker, canned food etc. I tried to go as light as possible as diesel is super expansive, $2.50 for a liter!

Otherwise I was referring to Chicago and Florida, I moved there after graduation to work at Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, I really miss Florida mainly clear water...

I will keep you all posted on my travels :) thank you for the warm welcome
