Welcome ky jr to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hello KyJr i’m from PA but part of my heart is in eastern Kentucky. Letcher county A little valley known as the valley of the winds. My daughter used to run a mission that was on top of Pine Mountain on little shepherd trail. I don’t know what part of Kentucky you’re from but if you are from Kentucky you are blessed. I hope you enjoy preparing your Rig for traveling. I live in a 1998 dodge conversion van and while I wanted to be in Kentucky this year this Covid virus has screwed me up a little bit like everybody else. I plan to spend the winter in Florida and from there there are no other plans just a few ideas. Maybe we’ll run into each other someday. As long as we don’t run over each other. God bless the nomads each and everyone

Welcome to the CRVL Forum     :)

Your ability with restoring musical instruments could serve you well out there on the road.

It shouldn't be too difficult for you to learn to trouble shoot or even repair the furnace or generator in your
rig.

A friend of mine who passed away a little over a year ago used to do a lot of repairs on RV Generators.  He owned
a 3 phase electric motor shop and repaired generators,  motors, welding equipment.   He explained to me that if the motor was running but the generator wasn't putting out it was usually a commutator/brush issue.  He had this tool that was a special stone on the end of a plastic handle.  While the generator was turning (motor running) he would touch this to the commutator and pull it across to clean the commutator.  And that would restore the out put in a lot of cases.  He said it was similar with welding machines.  Often these things sit around and oxidize and if it is the case it is easy to fix.

As for the furnace there are some youtube videos I've seen for the maintenance, repair, and even  "ticks"
one can use for their furnace, absorption refrigeration, or generators.

A  $20 commutator cleaning stone is lightly drawn across the commutator to clean it to restore it to output.

eDJ_ thanks for the info bought parts for furnace sick right now sinus infection will get on it when i feel better.

A lot of times people in RV's think something is wrong with their hot water heater or furnace (that uses a pilot flame and thermocouple).    If a wind gust comes up and blows out the pilot flame the thermocouble will cool and shut off the gas supply.

A simple way to prevent this is to make a wind deflector or make a baffle for the inside of the access door.  Just some thin sheet metal and attachment clips.   It's handy to have a couple of these and I'd suggest it be made to rise a little above ad below the screen covered air inlet.   this picture is of an external mounted deflector.
