of Sun Hats.
I went to an outdoors
store and bought
a $40 hat.
I may buy 2 more lesser
hats $15 each.
I hav a few hats lost in
my closets but none
with the back of the neck
drape

Silver,
I usually wear a hat to keep my hair in place. Hair being singular. Well, I have a few more than that but I really wear a hat to keep my bald spot from burning in the summer and to hold in the heat in the winter,-(minus 5* this morning) I definitely wore a hat this morning!!!

Hey, Lets have some fun with this Hat thread. Could be some fun stories I would guess.

LOL Tinman! At least you don't have to worry so much about hat hair. :p I wish there was a "like" button in this forum because there's so many comments I appreciate that I don't want to just comment that I appreciate them.

So here's my contribution to the fun part: You can keep your hat on. ;)

On the more serious side I'll have to replace my work hat from the last 15 years before I set out. I never wear that one in public because it looks like it's not far from being compost. I look horrible in hats and have a hard time finding ones that fit my noggin so it will be an interesting search for me---maybe I'll just get a parasol to carry. hehe I've seriously thought about those asian style ones---round woven with the point on top, but I tried one on once and my daughter almost broke something in the shop because she laughed so hard she lost her footing. :D The safari helmets are fun, but they don't really offer that much cover from what I've seen. I'll admit I've been a hat stalker on the van dwelling blogs and RTR photos and check out all the hats I see.

Wow- 15 years on a work hat!! mine are lucky to see five.
I like hats almost as much as jeans.
Mine are for shading my eyes and hair control- thankfully I still have plenty to keep my neck warm and sheltered.
Usually I wear caps- ball style with no stupid sayings or advertisement for anybody. New fav is military in earth tones, similar to the old engineers caps..
One I wear boondocking quite a bit was my Dad's- something like 55 years old now(the hat, he would be 104 ), he was a big fan of cowboy hats...this one is a more understated size and style, battered and stained, once upon a time it was tan. It just feels good to take something of his with me. I've had people tell me it suits me well...I'm not sure I agree.
I too, have hat envy of those that wear Outback or Indiana Jones styles well.

For what it's worth, I find the hats with tails/skirts to be pretty hot and uncomfortable.

I find the wide brimmed with snap up sides to be the most comfortable for me. Keeps my neck shaded, without acting like a solar heater. I got mine at a military surplus store.

I have had sun spots burnt off my ears and nose so I wear a wide brim hat whenever I am outside. I have had many over the years, some expensive, some cheap, I find that most of the brims start to sag after a while or the hat is too heavy or has poor ventilation. I have settled on the Tilley brand, they guarantee them for life, the brim holds up well, I have one that is 3 years old and that is usually the limit on my hats but this one although starting to fade is in great shape, the brim is like new, holds straight. I watched a customer take advantage of the life time guarantee returning a very old scruffy hat with a tear from worn fabric and walking out with a brand new one for nothing that was the kicker for me. I know I will wear it out and expect to get a new one some day, I will likely buy another one though as there are so many nice designs and different colours, not cheap, Canadian made, quality product.

I wanted a Tilley as well, but when I went shopping the outfitter didn't have one in my size. I was about to quit looking when I found an OR hat that was almost identical to the Tilley. They had it in my size and it had a 40% off tag...BONUS!!

It's a rain hat, sunhat and bad hair day hat all rolled into one.

I have always worn hats. It's part of The Uniform of the Southern Redneck. :)
Started with the basic ball cap. I have a good collection of them. Now I also wear any of several boonie hats when the mood takes me. Being in the military for two hitches further locked in my hat wearing habit. A GI almost NEVER goes 'uncovered' outdoors.

I looked for the perfect beanie for months. I have a shaved head and like something to cover my ears when cold. I bought a couple beanies but they weren't quite right. Then six months ago, a gal friend gave me the perfect one! I wore it everywhere. In fact i wore it at the RTR often. This week it went missing. I'm thinking of offering a reward.

this is such sad story brought tears to my eyes, cheer up, I know where your hat is, it is a beanie right, pm me for bank account to send the reward to, then I will send your hat so you can be reunited and we can have the happy ever after.

Anybody remember the crocheted hats made with cut up beer or pop cans back in the 60s or 70s? Of course they might have just been a local thing around our part of the midwest. :p Wonder if we could make that a thing again. The brims could be made from taller cans so they offer more shade. :D

I gave my favorite summer weight brimmed hat to my dad years ago because it worked for him when he sat on the mower and I hadn't worn it in years and had need to make some room in my house. Way too late to think it would still be around at his wife's house.

I ll hav to look into the hats with Life Time
guarantees.
REI has 100 % Satisfaction.
They v been honoring it too.

I dont know if the Tails / Drapes wil
make me hotter but I v always wanted
one.  And I jus ordered two mor on
sale.  Most people luv these hats.

Thanks for the suggestions !

I love hats but hate the flat hat head look when I take them off. Guess you guys with very short hair don't have to worry so much about that. I got a loom from Walmart and made hats for everybody as Christmas gifts one year. I'm wearing mine now and it will have to stay on until I wash my hair tonight after working on the class C

Yep, they were here in the Deep Southeast too.  My sister (then a hippy-wannabe) had one.  Grotesque things.....    ;)

I used to sleep with a light welders cap on when it was cold but sometimes it just didn't cut it on real cold nights so I had my wife sew one made of fleece using the weld cap as a pattern. Wife makes fun of me but, hey, she isn't bald, not yet anyway!!!

i have a Tilly, from canada made with hemp canvas. Been a good hat, but I'm looking for a different shape. My dermatologist "demands" I wear a hat. For this winter I found a USA, 100% wool, navy style watch cap. From Peterman. Wonderful under a hood.

I wear the ball cap type hats, boonies type hats, and cowboy type hats. most of the time my hair is long enough to cover my neck and ears covered. however last year I stupidly cut my hair right before going out in the desert, wore a ball cap and burnt my ears, won't be doing that again. highdesertranger

Good morning Everyone !
Spring forward ?

I v stupidly shaved my head before job
interviews before.
Makes me look like a gangster.

I v come to the conclusion that I need
one hat for each location :
- Car
- Closet
- Bug Out Bag etc

When I m tired I jus thro my hats
in the garage or closet and they get lost
in bags etc

So I m happy I ordered two more Drape Sun
Hats from Wyomming
