We have 100 AmpHour AMG battery in van.  Can it safely be ground to a seat belt attachment point in the frame of the van?  The seat belt attachment is definitely reinforced metal on the passenger side by the barn doors of a Chevy Express.  It would save us drilling through bottom of van and finding a point on the chassis.  We will only be running some LED lights, MaxAir fan, and some USB chargers.  Appreciate any advice.

Yes you could ground it there(check for ground) or you can just float the ground it all depends on the system. Highdesertranger

How will you attach the ground wire? By removing the bolt and using a ring terminal?

If you put one probe of a meter on the bolt and the other on a clean area of the frame, you could check to see what the resistance is.

Make it easy on yourself. As HDR suggested, just “float” the grounds. In other words, the AGM battery ground will not be connected to the vehicle frame ground. When wiring the various loads just run a positive and negative wire from the battery to the load. These loads will be totally isolated from the vehicle electrical system.

Hope this helps.

To answer some questions posted - the seat belt bolt is currently removed.  We would use a ring terminal and that existing seatbelt bolt into the threaded place for it.  However, the bolt is pretty big and I am uncertain that I can get a ring terminal with a big enough ring.

We are charging the system off the starter battery. and will also charge from shore power when we have access to it.

Given that the AGM battery is connected to the starter battery, can we still just float the system from the AGM battery and beyond?

Thanks for all you helpful replies!

Make sure to properly clean the grounding area as to make good connectivity. A little dielectric grease goes a long way. Chasing bad grounds will drive you mad!
