Hi everyone,
I'm a 32 year old in Omaha, Nebraska. For the longest time, I've been feeling that I needed to make a major change to my life. I didn't and don't like the life I'm living. The drudgery of work, the noise of the city, and feeling like I don't belong, especially with my generation. I was sort of thinking of getting a motorcycle and traveling across the country. I don't want a lot of things "normal" people do. I don't want kids, a house, and obligations tying me down. I have a bit in savings, but I can't think of what I'd want to spend them on.
But then I met someone that was prepping for van living. I entered into a brief romantic relationship with them, and it completely exploded, drastically so, a real punch to the emotional gut; and despite that, while they never evangelized the lifestyle properly to me and I didn't appreciate it at the time, part of it sunk in with me, pretty deep.
A van itself is not quite right for me. I need a toilet and shower, as I think I want to do both some degree of stealth camping and boondocking to get away from people, as my moods take me. I've been thinking about getting a class B. A short class C is not out of the question, however I have concerns about the build quality and longevity of them, as well as the ease of parking and "blending in."
My transition to this lifestyle is still in the planning phase. I need to figure out what I'd do about making money. My parents are planning on moving to the south when they retire, which is in about 1.5 years, and it is a decent place, so I can use that as a home base. I think it is about when they move I will follow them and begin putting my plans into action.
I'm happy to join this community.
