Just ordered my Nature's Head composting toilet...  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009Z7EKIC/ref=pd_luc_rh_bxgy_01_01_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I would like opinions on diverting urine into the gray water tank which will receive sink and shower waste water. This would bypass the urine holding tank that comes with the toilet system.

Primary reason for doing this would be to eliminate the most frequent maintenance of emptying the urine collector.

Everything I've found via google searches would seem to indicate that this would be fine and shouldn't cause undue smell in the tank. I've also seen tank additives that might address that possible issue..?

If you're going to do that, it needs to be diverted to the black water tank not the gray water.

But whatever tank you divert it to, you're going to need to use chemicals. Most people use chemicals in both the gray water tank and the black water to avoid odors. Even gray water smells!

I'm curious though as to why you chose the Nature's Head toilet instead of the C-Head.

In my gray water tank, which is just the kitchen sink effluent, I put a cup of bleach and a cup of fabric softener. It is never smelly even when I go two weeks between dumplings. It is a 50 gallon tank and its mounted outside the living area.

Well, there won't be a black tank since goin composting, so thinking to have gray serve double duty.

I actually was planning on a C-head for a long time, until not long ago someone here did a review and then I started searching, even inquired to manufacturer. The sole reason I didn't get a C-head is it's inability to adequately handle paper...it just doesn't have an aggressive enough tumbler mechanism. I debated it for a bit, finally decided I was fine with spending the extra $300 to not have toilet paper as something else to deal with...

I studied nitrogen cycling in soils for my masters degree in soil science so o have some experience and education in this area.

Urine has quite a bit of nitrogen and phosphorus in it. It is a plant fertilizer in small amounts and could kill a plant in large amounts. In large amounts it is a water pollutant and causes overgrowth of algae if put directly into water.

My personal practice with urine is to pee in a jug and empty the jug on a different deserving plant every day. I swish out the jug with some soil as an abrasive. No smell.

That way the urine is serving a beneficial use in the desert (fertilizing and moisture), rather than being a pollutant in some cities waste stream.

Yeah I got opinions. For sure.

For cleaning a urine (or poop, for that matter) receptacle, plain white vinegar is fantastic!

All urine is not sterile. Some disease affects urine. If you dump grey water with urine on the ground in a larger volume it will stink. Your camp area will be foul.

For decades, scientists have thought that urine is sterile and that patients who test positive for bacteria in their urine have urinary tract disorders. In 2014, a team of scientists from Loyola University found discovered that might not be true.

The question now is to what degree. They had to use DNA techniques to find it. Whatever we do as humans it will have some sort of impact on the Earth. Does this mean we should not live so as to save the Earth?

Fun fact, it is possible to make an explosive from urine.

I also use the jug method and dispose of the liquid fertilizer by aerial dispersion. Never repeating the same track.

In an RV I still use a jug as it easier than trying to hit the tiny, low toilet bowl without splatter. The I flush the jug's content down the toilet.
