I set one up over a week ago for funds to buy a car. The only responses were from a close friend and a niece. It doesn't look like it's going to be successful.

A go fund me is never gonna work for something like this.. go fund me works for people who have emergency medical problems, or artist that can give something back. A go fund me to travel and enjoy life is like asking for a house, people aren’t gonna give you money for something that you should be working for to make your own life better.

Go Fund Me is for anyone trying to make there life better, for people who do not have means to do so, or to get that little help they need to get back on there feet if they have lost.
You are right though people do take advantage as I have seen people on there just trying to get money for a speeding ticket, or for a party, or there next beer.
The really sad part I think though is that they get it and not only do they get it but they get way way more than they even asked.
I do belive you should try to work for what you get and I plan to and I am trying to that I promise. I am homeless litterally bouncing from place to place so just decided to clean out an old falling apart fifth wheel the walls are litterally falling apart around me. While this is my dream and has been what I was working to acheive as I could now I'm glad I have nothing holding me back since I already have nothing.
I do have skills as a photograph that went to school for and it started as that taking my dream on the road the art and freedom. I am still doing that as well maybe I should gear my go fund me more tawards that. I don't know I am just at a point that I need to try anything and everything I can so not only I can have quality of life but even food to eat.
Thank you for your comment wanderlove i do agree that my page probably does sound just like you are saying it does. I don't know maybe I just feel ashamed of how it turned out for me I don't know could be but I know at this point if I need to beg I will to get back on my feet and get back to where I can start helping people myself as I use to.

I don't think GFM is a best resource for your specific quest.
These are some that maybe would be better - look for free stuff and post wanted free stuff on these sites:

freecycle.com
facebook.com (marketplace)
craiglist.com
nextdoor.com

Also, many times churches are an excellent resource.

I don't know if you are able to work - but the nextdoor and craigslist are good sites to look for jobs ... and I saw Bob's video on jobs at the RTR in January.
Please keep us updates.

Thank you, yes I am able to work i have been applying for many jobs even hard labor that I'm not best suited for.

I to have seen that video and that is my plan to get there and get those jobs on the road. I know I can do it and much more just trying everything I can to get to that point.

Thank you for the sites I've been on most of them and will check the others out. The churchs also. Even if I don't reach my goal on GFM anything helps and that is just another way and when I get to where I can I will give back. I love working and I am hard worker just need to get there.

I did have accidents getting hurt, a customer blowing out my knees, a truck running over my foot, and braking the other ankle on a job years ago that has limited me and made it where couldn't do what I loved anymore. But that's where I am at now and it will not stop me. I was a proud man never asking for help but always giving and still to this day having nothing I give help because that's who I want to be and more people I think should be. But to each there own I don't judge as it is not my life.

Thank you Patty and hope to see everyone at the RTR

You will do it!

Something my mom (constantly) told us: "If it were easy, everybody would do it!" :shy:

Don't give up BeFree !

Keep your eyes open for free things you can use to repair your ride and maybe even barter for some of things you need.

Keep the faith !

I'll never give up it's notin me to. I may have caught a break someone has a really nice 34 foot rv with low miles on a rebuit engine and tranny both rebuilt. Has everything even a 6500 watt Onan generator that works they will trade me for my 88 blazer.

A little bigger and older than I was thinking but with the rebuilds thats been done by licensed shops it will get me going for now.

It already has, and I think the trend will be corrosive to the community.  Here was my take on it from February.

I have seen some sketchy GFM things if helps me great if I get nothing at leaSt I've tried. Not having a home is where I am at so I'm trying anything. I have roof right now even if it leaks every where aND in someplaces I can see outside through the walls haha it is what it is and I am thankful I have it.

I might even have a job lined up very soon yay wish me luck.

I was thinking about that to.

Ya I'm not very handy at building things but I might go for it. Ya I'm not ashamed to say it ha ha. Good thing I have friends that are. But I need to start sometime.

Would be cool to have something that can go wherever I want. While I'm working on my camper build. Hmmmmmm what to do ha ha

I say if the Blazer is mechanically sound, go with that. Better to be driving something you already know about than a big ?? with the RV. You can set the Blazer up inexpensively. Watch the video Bob and Suanne did regarding bare essentials and start with just those things. You may be able to find some of them for free or be able to barter for them. If someone wanted something I have for sale and asked me what they could do since they have no cash, I could think of a lot of things. Bring all the stuff in my truck up to my apartment and I'll give you ____. It's worth asking.

Hello

I think the Blazer might be your best bet to get started.  Especially If it's mechanicly sound, paid for and has good tires.

If you go to the top of this page and click on "other conversions"  the 4th one down is a full size Blazer.

It's not my business however it seems to me that with all your injuries you should be eligible for either SSI or SSDI benefits.

The "customer blew out my Knees"  sounds like a law suit or out of court settlement to me.  That's without knowing all the facts.  Then on the other 2,  they sound like work related injuries so maybe there is insurance coverage or Workmans Comp coverage that may depend on when the injuries happened.

I had been injured a number of times through my life and the long term results + the last injury was the reason for me to file for my SSDI benefits.

I hope things work out for you.
