Looks like a blast, although getting to NC in the first place is a long drive / ride for me

Perfect for my recently departed BMW Dual Sport. Couldn't do it healthwise now, but damn, that would be a nice trip.

^ I bet if you had a South Dakota registered sideXside("motorcycle" size license plate) and DL nobody would say a thing. There's supposed to be some level of reciprocity between the states.

The TAT would be a cool trip, I know the passes through the Colorado on the "easy" route aren't that gnarly, 4x4 van or crazy guy in a 2wd territory, Ophir, Hurricane, Cimmaron and paved passes like Red Mountain and Lizard Head.

I would love to do some of the state BDR(Backcountry discovery routes) in the future, in fact I had planned on joining the COBDR at Gunnison and following it Northbound on this years route(Old Monarch instead of Cottonwood) in my 4wd civic but alas, the car is dead, rear diff seized luckily when I was near town..

When I was active on the KLR forums, some guys were discussing trying that. Would be a fun trip, if I were twenty years younger. And rich.

It's on my todo list. I'll most likely run it west to east. DR350 or KTM EXC. Bivy sack and oatmeal. I'll do it within two years.

I was trying to envision me and my Polaris trying it. Wouldn't work but would be fun to try.

Depends on how much is off road and how sneaky you are :p

And how much bail I could afford. Wouldn't it be a kick to put on my bucket list?

I just talked to the listing agent on the inexpensive property IanC linked to in Tn.....I need a change of scenery.

One thing about being in poor health or having a sort of limited time to do things is you develop a sort of "**** it" attitude. Worst they can do is lock me up and then they will have to pay for my medications.

I once used the expression, "what are they going to do, cut my hair and send me back to Nam?" I kind of have that attitude now.
