howdy folks. Nice forum upgrade! classy.

I just installed a 6kbtu window unit in my van to keep my doggy cool while i'm at work and got a honda generator to power it. for the time being i'm gonna probably get a thick cable and lock and chain it to my axle, and park where i can keep an eye on it while i'm at work. I'll just store it in the van. I'll probably also get an power out type alarm so i can hear/see if it either shuts off, or is shut off

I'm not down in the city, i'm in a suburban type town so it's not an extreme concern just something i want to get a game plan together on. I would like to probably mount it to the back door somehow, eventually.

I'm wondering what your security solutions are if you don't mind.

I've also vaguely considered doing some "security through obscurity" hacks, maybe painting it gray and getting a harbor freight decal for it so you can't easily determine that it's a classy honda :O

It's ironic you posted this today. I just took my Predator (Harbor Freight Brand) Generator out of storage today with the intent of putting oil in it and getting it ready since I leave on the 18th. I previously purchased two Westinghouse Generators which I bought on Amazon.com, however both arrived horribly damaged.

My solution for them on the bed of my pickup truck was to use a Master Bike Lock Cable looped through the frame and one of the cargo loops in the bed, which are slightly behind the bed-liner, so not easy to access. I then used a long bungee cord to hold the cover on the generator.

A ratchet strap from one rear loop to the other through the frame held the generator secure in the back. However, now that I have the Predator it's not an open frame. So I am rethinking how I am going to do this now. The Predator has a closed frame and handle bars on both ends. I'm still thinking the cable lock will be sufficient for now on the bed side of things, but lopping through the handles of the generator, not so sure.
