Several years back I van camped at a forest lake, and watched a nice night-long meteor shower.  Took some pics too but the moon was about full.  Washed it out somewhat.  Still an interesting thing to do.

This year will be wonderful for pictures as the moon will be nearly dark.

Tent camping back in the 90s in Montana, I'd usually carry one of those old-fashioned foldout-flat lawn loungers. Boondocking places to camp in MT are very dark so, although I'd sleep in the tent on my thermarest, I'd often lay outside on that lounger for half the night so I could stare at the sky. "Back home" here in the mid-south, even tho this town is small, there is a lot of light pollution. This sounds like it is worth a special effort to find some dark.
