These signs are popping up in many area in L.A.  I asked a cop and they said 7' is measured from the ground to the "highest point" on top of the vehicle (roof rack, vent, solar panels and etc).  They measure the long from beginning to end point of a vehicle including cargo hitches, bike rack and etc.  They do not use mfg. specs.

They absolutely are being picked on. :dodgy:

I wonder if they count roof racks in that height.

New prank idea: Add roof racks to high dollar SUVs during the night, wait for the laws to be repealed.

I looked up the referenced municipal code -- you can (maybe) get a permit for $10 to park your "oversized" vehicle between the hours of 2AM and 6AM if you pony up $10. grrr

Also, while this was signed into law back in 2006 (!), the interesting part is that implementation is done only by City Council authorization. In other words, it's arbitrary. I suspect if we look at the home addresses of the LA City Council members, we'll find *their* streets with these signs. These are the City Council members who earn 5x more than the average LA resident (plus pension, car, travel...)

Alas, there are many cities in the US which ban parking RVs on the street.

In Florida, virtually every local homeowners association bans it. Some even ban parking an RV in your own driveway.

isn't the permit only for local residents who's houses are on there streets where the signs are posted and not for everyone?
