I figured since others are venting...so will I.
I am seriously considering quitting my measly job. I work as a courier racking up miles on my truck, but not making much money. I drive about 700 to 1000 miles a week and make barely enough to survive. I get paid by the miles and pay my own expenses. My concern is all the wear and tear on my truck with pretty much nothing to show for it. I'm trying to save money to hit the road, but it's not working. I just replaced the water pump in my truck.
It cost 77.00, which was cheap. But it took half my profit for the week. I'm seriously considering hitting the road and just try to make it as I go. I can't imagine it would be any worse then things are now.
I think the hardest part of starting this lifestyle is how to earn a living.
It's nice to vent, but I don't feel much better. OK, I will quit for now.

Indeed earning on the road seems to be the big question! I sure hope you find something worth your time, sooner than later! I just read today that "you can't reach for something new if your hands are full of yesterday's junk." I really like that and it seems to fit a multitude of circumstances. Praying you feel MUCH better, really soon!

Check the oil and gas industry in the midwest. Even a grunt out there can earn $50,000 a year as a gopher.
Sid, U seem pretty knowledgeable about cars... any chance U could make some money wrenchin' 'em?
As I'm sure you're aware, mechanics are in demand everywhere!
Or is that something you'd rather not have to resort to?

You could be a mechanic for van dwellers!!

Ya, I considered that, but with everyone spread out in different areas, I don't know how that would workout. Without a shop, I would only be able to do minor repairs. It's a good thought if it could work somehow.

Do they hire temp mechanics? Just throwing things out as I have no idea what it involves.

Blkjak thats a great idea but does something like that involve a licence to do? Or a permit? How many times do you wish a mechanic would show up out of the blue? LOL.

Sounds like a possibility. Maybe an add on craigslist for a town I will be going thru. I could place the ad a few days before I get there...HMMM

auto detailing might be good too, if you are into that sort of thing.

there is a guy around here that charges $150 to $200 to make your car look/smell like new. quite worth it when it nets you an extra $500 if you are selling the car, or you are just tired of living in cat hair and spilled coffee.

Sounds like someone needs a man-hug.

A man hug is a lean in with only one arm from each guy to pat the other on the back. The free hand is usually used to pass some sort of manly drink to the guy who needs the hug.

I don't know that I'd want to hug a guy with moobs, but don't know of any guy who doesn't love a good hug from a girly.

I guess I'm all in now. I have been struggling with what to do about work and other things. So I decided, I keep doing that, or make a change. I choose change. So, today I quit my job.....I pinched myself, its not a dream.

So I have decided. I am going to the mountains for a week or so. Clear my head and consider my options. Then I will come back down, sort the rest of my stuff. Sell what I can and give away what I can't, and sell my motorhome.
Once I finish that. I'm outta here.
It's a weird feeling to be excited and scared at the same time.

You know how you make the big changes Sid? One step at a time, like ya just did now. Good on you man!

YES Sid....good deal...you da man! Nothing wrong with a little being scared...it'll pass. Have a good trip to the mountains.
Bri
