I am 22 years old from central FL going fulltime in my minivan next Wednesday.

I'm planning to go to the west coast to camp on BLM land to hike the mountains.

I will be bringing my 4 year old Cavalier spaniel with me.

Would appreciate any tips that anybody can provide!

xx

An brave dream......I wish you best on your travels. Be safe, be smart, and be aware of your surroundings at all times. The world is a wonderful place to explore but it is not without its dangers too.

Welcome. Very cool adventure! Hope you have safe travels and tons of fun.

There are a ton of tips to read on this forum.

Don't know your van/rv/camping experiences so not sure what you might need to know truly.

Best of luck to you and any specific questions come and post and someone with good experience can help you :)

Welcome to the CRVL forums BabyQueen! Take your time traveling to the coast - lots to see along the way. If you can give us a general location of where you plan to camp and hike we may be able to suggest good free campsites. Keep us updated!

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to the CRVL forums  :)

I must agree with the others here about life west of the Mississippi.  I've been out there and was taught by people I knew
who came from that area regarding the perils it could present eastern people who haven't been exposed to life in that region.
It is different and could be potentially dangerous.

I would offer you to view the bottom website in my signature line as it may make your Nomad travels more comfortable
and convenient.

All the best !

Welcome!!
Best tip I can offer is keep asking questions,  the more specific,  the better. There's a TON of experience here

If you come North to Chicago first, you can start Historic Route 66 and follow it all the way to California. My son and I did it last year and it was the trip of a lifetime. We used the online version of the guide book Road Trip USA, which allows you to download the maps in pdf format. You can find it at roadtripusa.com

Best of luck on your journey.
