Free Notes App

Does anyone know a good, simple, free notes app for a phone? I  liked the one on my Galaxy S4, but I don't like the one that came with the S5 at all. It is too clumsy. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of them on the apps store. All I want to do is keep a to do is to keep a to do list and a list of my current market holdings and bids. Oh, and I want it to store on the phone, not off in the cloud where I cannot reach it without wifi.

I tried several when I switched from iphone to android a couple of months ago, really like Simple Notepad, easy to use, and allows me to take notes and keep checklists.

I'm using "Note Everything," and it works fine for me.
