It's no biggie, I'm just mildly curious. It must be a fair amount of work keeping these threads clean sometimes. Also I think there must be some way to ask a mod directly about something like this instead of raising it in the thread, but I couldn't figure out how to do it.

BTW I see another new blank post up there (with a quote but no new text). Must be gremlins!

I posted a suggested place that gets around the metal box issue for an air tag in a van or an RV and it got deleted too. Golly, I thought! That's against the rules?

So, I am glad we have an explanation. It does make me wonder, is it only Fairman136 that can delete other people's posts, or can anyone do it?

We can't even delete our own posts.
I'm not sure we do have an explanation yet.
(Unless you count gremlins ;)

No, I can't do it any more than anyone else can.
Here's what I think happened. I replied to a post, then decided to delete my reply. So I deleted each character of my reply, going backwards, until it was blank. Then I clicked "Save". A message popped up saying "You must enter a message. Not knowing what to do, I typed "(delete)" as a message to the Moderator to delete my reply. Not only was my reply deleted, but also the post I was replying to. This happened more than once.
So if you are entering a reply to someone and change your mind, I guess just delete all characters and leave the forum temporarily. I think the reply will still show in the thread, it will just be blank.

Again, I apologize to everyone. And none of my deleted replies were malicious. I just changed my mind.

Not sure about this forum's software but on a forum I used to be a moderator on for many years, what happened many times was as follows: Someone makes a post asking about small fridge recommendations. 2 minutes later, they get a phone call from a friend who has one he will give him, so, to not be a bother, he tries to remove his first post by backspacing and removing all, or as much of the post as he can. Meanwhile, 5 people have helpfully replied so, later when a Mod see this, he has 5 replies to nothing. (or the word "delete" or "please remove" which would be very confusing to anyone, especially new folks, on the forum. So he has no choice but to remove all of those replies to that question so the rest of the conversation makes some sense. As I said, not sure if this forum software is similar to what I was used to but it may be something like that. Being a Moderator is no easy task I can tell you.

I'm sure it's not. I think maybe it's not necessary to backtrack but to simply leave the forum for a second.

Thought: While you can use an Airtag to keep track of your own vehicle, bad people can do the same to track YOU. I didn't see your post, but maybe that was the reason?

I had an 82 Toyota Sunrader motorhome that I installed a kill switch on. It's been a while but doubt it cost me more than $10 to do. Unless they towed it away and looked later in a shop, there's no way a thief would have found the ON/OFF switch on it either. That little Toyota was super simple so I have no idea how difficult it would be to install a kill switch on a newer vehicle. Anyone know?

Nothing is 100% but if you really reeeeally want to be covered then install that film on the glass that makes the windows hard to get through after being shattered, a kill switch, theft insurance, renters insurance (to cover everything that would fall out if a giant grabbed your car and turned it upside down), air tag and a Club lock on the steering wheel and I think you should be covered.

Someone mentioned something about older normal cars being stolen.... I have read about that too and recall that Toyota Camry's were at or near the top of the list.

Ah, so you mean if I write something, then want to remove it I just exit the forum and not post it and it is gone? What if already posted and I am wanting to remove it by editing?

If you exit without posting, your text is still there waiting for you when you return (at least that's how it's worked for me).

Seems like we should maybe get someone who knows how all this works to weigh in here instead of continuing to speculate. I'll post this and then self-report it and maybe a mod can weigh in.

My experience is, if I have already posted something and want to remove it, if I backtrack all the way to a blank page and then click "Save", I will get a message that says I must enter a message. But I think if you backtracked all the way to where there's as little as one character left, the system will accept that.
But if you backtrack all the way and then type in "delete", not only will your reply be deleted, but so will the post(s) you were replying to.

On another forum I follow, which is explicitly political and can get VERY hot, I tend to replace the original with something like "Sorry, on second thought, what I said was pretty dumb". So far, that has worked to not trigger a bunch of cascading deletions.

I don't think him saying delete caused all of those posts to be deleted.

I would like to think it didn't. You could test it by replying to this post. Reply:

(delete)

and let's see what happens. Give it a little time, though. It may be that the Moderator has to see the "delete" request, and then the Forum's program has to complete a task.

But first try replying with a blank page and see what happens. You should get a pop-up alert saying you have to enter a message.

I've posted a message in the mods section, please give us a chance to figure out what happened.

Thanks Morgana for the heads up...sometimes we miss things because we are not always able to view every post in every sub-forum...I know...hard to believe but true!

So...as they used to say on TV...."Technical Difficulties, Please Stand By"

I definitely would prefer if it was technical difficulties in this case.

Sorry guys! I have no idea what happened here. I deleted two posts - one because it was a quote without anything added and the other was a "delete" request by the poster. It must have been some kind of strange glitch because mods must check off a post before it can be deleted. There's no way that I could have checked off so many posts accidentally or even intentionally without remembering it.
I've restored most of the posts.
