found a van...

found a van that is  1993 Aerostar, has 137k on it, some stuff I need to fix like a windshield he wants 300 but I'm going to offer him 100. My situation is getting grim and I need to get out from where I'm at. He says it drives and runs, and the tranny is good. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas about this?

Have a mechanic check it out?

Only pay him down at the DMV as they're transferring the title/rego.
