Wow, Cyndi, I had not thought of looking for local groups. I'm far from the ones in your links but especially the forage for food site is great! Many of the "weeds" grow here, too. As kids, my sister and I used to pick at what we called "sheep grass" (sorrel) in the yard near our woods.

This spurs me to do a search for something in my area.

I used to eat wild rhubarb as a kid. I didn't eat the leaves, but it wasn't because I knew they were poisonous.
Black mushroom soup was something my relatives served near the xmas holidays.
Food mistakes are not very forgiving.
 
And there are several great authors on Medicinal plants specific to different regions of the U.S. as well, great hobby and skill to teach yourself.
